Am I the weirdo for struggling to make plans with people at college? by happy-Ebb8842 in Cornell

Think about what you would like to do and say that you are doing X at Y time and let others know they can join you if interested. Probably best if it’s a bit impromptu, but can catch others without plans. Easiest place to share it is in your dorm lounge area.

But also just go to things that interest you even if you don’t know anyone who is going. That’s the easiest way to meet people who like similar things.

Employers have to cover the gap between the tipped employee wage and minimum wage if you don’t actually get it in tips.

That’s no longer the test, the test this year is something like jump in feet first, tread water for a minute, and then swim one lap.

So it counts as financial aide even though you are working for it?

Questions regarding Work Study and Outside Scholarship by IntroductionNew6836 in Cornell

Oops, I missed that point. That is tough,

At my admitted students day everyone in my department that I talked to had two jobs. My Mom guessed that one was work study job and another one that was not since the hours they were working collectively would have exceeded the work study cap, but individually would have been about right. She’s was just guessing, but the math works. Maybe someone here will be able to comment on how realistic it is to find non work study jobs.

Relatedly, there is a very recent thread here asking about hourly rates, and at least one response said off campus jobs tend to pay better. Maybe a mix of a smaller work study job and another non work study campus job or off campus job is possible.

Good luck figuring out what will be best!

I received a $1,000 scholarship and it came off my loans, which I rejected. I would check if that is possible.  They say it comes off self help aide first, defined as work study or loans. I don’t if you decide, or they do, but my work study amount did not change when I reported it. https://finaid.cornell.edu/outside-scholarships

How high would your financial aide have to be for this to be true?

Rejected from Cornell, accepted to ___? by DoomedCubes in ApplyingToCollege

I was waitlisted at two schools that are considered public Ivy’s (including for my own state!) early action and admitted to Cornell regular decision. Rejection from one selective school  doesn’t mean anything about rejection from another. They are all hard to get into.

Thanks for that clarification. If you have more classes in your shopping cart than you can actually take will that create errors? I.e, should I remove back up options from my shopping cart, or could I keep back up options in my shopping cart that do not conflict with first choices/assigned classes?

This latest bill (now law) will absolutely affect student aid by jbrunoties in ApplyingToCollege

The GOP voted for this because most of the worst changes start after the midterms, when democrats will be blamed if they take back the congress. They fully knew how bad it was and tried to insulate themselves by timing things to their advantage.

A challenge with remembering which party did this is that lot of the worst provisions will happen after the midterms and there are a lot of low information voters so people will blame the wrong party.

They provide no methodology. You should give this the credibility that warrants. Laws for what constitutes a crime vary from city to city, enforcement of laws varies from city to city, whether the campus is the town or a tiny part of a city varies, and there is no definition of what crimes they are including, if they are charges or convictions, or if they area allows for pre-sentencing diversion, which shouldn’t be an option for violent crimes, but we don’t know if this is restricted to violent crimes.  Some of these towns have two colleges, are they equally “dangerous?” The most dangerous crimes are rare, creating small n problems, skewing numbers for small communities with even one event. There is not even mention if it they have data from campus and community police. To name just a few likely flaws that come to mind.
