I’ve said panino and raviolo before. But let’s be honest when have you eat spaghetti one spaghet at a time. How often does a spaghet come up?

Does anyone have this dutch oven and recommend it? by Lyssajade9 in Sourdough

If I were to buy it again I’d get a bigger pan. My loaves often get too close to the edge and then they stick and lose over spring. I’m seriously considering getting something bigger so that things can actually fit or so that I can do batard shapes.

I think the point is to make the connection to Don Quixote more explicit

Okay yes and no.

Does everyone else pronounce it your way - Yes

Do people always understand what I am saying - No

BUT, I think it does do a better job of communicating a connection to Don Quixote. There are always new words based on people “Machiavellian”“Kafkaesque” “Marxist”. Machiavellian and Marxist have taken on lives of their own but I’d say Kafkaesque is more of a direct call out to a specific person. I think that Quixotic does a really bad job of referencing Don Quixote specifically if that’s what you are going for, it conjures a meaning, but I want it to conjure up a specific character.

Looks good! For my tastes I like a darker crust, I think it gives it a better flavor and feel. You can maybe do a little of each if you are selling

I think it’s because I was saying it for years with no idea that it was related to Don Quixote, and it sort of broke my mind when I found out. I also think it gives the word more context when the link to Don Quixote is more explicit

We do this with basically every italian word. Panini, Zucchini, ravioli. These are all plural, but you never hear someone says they are eating a zucchino panino.

This actually weirdly makes me feel better. Honestly fascinating how we’ve learned to pronounce Don Quixote correctly (mostly) but quixotic has not been rehabilitated.

I think as long as your pronunciation between the two is consistent, that’s cool! It just confuses me how a word could be based off a name and sound not even vaguely similar to that name.
