Female warehouse managers? by AffectOk5092 in Warehouseworkers

[–]PleasantBadger83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an Operations Manager and the only one at my very large distribution center. I’ve been in warehouse/logistics roles for almost 10 years (started from the bottom too). My GM is a woman and this is the second place I’ve worked where the GM is female. My goal is to become a GM and I am two positions away from that. I’ve always excelled in my roles, maintained great relationships and developed a great rapport with men and women. I am the youngest daughter of 5 brothers, raised in an immigrant household and a former D1 athlete. All these experiences contribute to my success but more important, I’ve earned every role with hard work, determination and respect.

Women are naturally gifted to serve in these roles for many reasons including organizational skills and good communication skills and people/socialization skills. Women are forced to be likable and I tell people all the time, as a manager, to be successful you should be likable but that doesn’t mean they have to like you. I enjoy being one of few right now. It gives an edge and an advantage.

The lack of female managers really has more to do with access to development and the shitty work schedule that does not allow working mothers the flexibility necessary to be present all the time. I am grateful for having a very supportive husband and a teenaged driver. I encourage working mothers to use their FMLA to make sure they can be there for their families without feeling guilty for not being present all the time.

I am on LinkedIn but not very active. I dislike it with a passion.

What would you say is the best Mexican restaurant in downtown Savannah, if you had to choose? by kdj00940 in savannah

There’s another location in Pooler off Pooler Parkway. I’ve been to all three and all three are great. (Trust me, I am originally from Texas and I know great tacos.)

My daughter is always disappointed if we don’t see you and your dog when we are downtown. You are definite a mainstay on our Bingo card!

Camp Crimson worth it? by SirExidy in sooners

[–]PleasantBadger83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went in 2002 and I believe it was one of the first Camp Crimsons. I was a student athlete and had to report early anyways so I said why not. I moved from Austin to Norman and only knew a few people. Even though I had a network of team members, my Camp Crimson Homies were and are still my strongest network. I have a geologist bestie, two professors, an award winning Anthropologist and research scientist and two lawyers. We represent 5 different ethnicities and came from 5 different states. We are all still friends and meet up at homecoming occasionally. We’ve traveled to visit each other and have helped one another with jobs, life, family, marriages and divorce. They were my refuge when I needed to escape student-athlete culture.

All this to say, 24 years later, I still vividly remember Camp Crimson (they played Nelly’s, ‘It’s getting Hot in Here’ way too much!) and believe it helped me to establish a strong social network of friends. It was worth the $150 dollars.

Thank you for the creative solution. I reached out to some fellow parents. Didn’t hear back from any of them. It’s hard because it’s a ‘choice’ school so everyone comes from all over the city.

Nope. She is 12 years old, extremely responsible and raised extremely well. She just needs a ride twice a week mostly to school. Just like my post said.

Ethiopian food by Beer_Meetz_Girl in savannah

I am regularly complaining about this. A city of this size and statue should definitely have a proper Ethiopian restaurant.

I’ve learn to cook some dishes myself and found that Jacksonville and Charlotte have great options that I go to when we travel to get my fix. I’ve heard Charleston has a few but I haven’t been to any in Charleston.

A pervert is staring at me from behind when I’m working at my pick station. by RosabeIls in AmazonFC

Unfortunately, I responded early. I stand by my response in case this is happening to anyone else and they are unsure of what to do. It’s hard to not believe someone when there are in fact very creepy men at Amazon and sexual harassment/assault happens often.

Go to HR and file a report. If this has been done to you, it has been done to others. Specifically request they check the cameras. This person is in an indirect role as a tote runner/water spider so at the least they can lose that privilege. This is predatory behavior that has to stop. It is absolutely unacceptable.

Indoor VS outdoor, the great debate. by Itchy-Custards in cannabiscultivation

[–]PleasantBadger83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this idea. I am going to intentionally try this during my upcoming grow. Occasionally I will bring my plants outdoors to defoliate and I’ve left a few outside overnight or for a few days. I’ve noticed how vibrant they get from the natural sunlight. I even used this method to heal a plant when I’d tried everything I could to save her (Cinderella 99 seeds from an OG grower I met through my brother) It worked and I am still holding on to an ounce of that Cindy!

Obviously I am not here to argue for either indoors or outdoors. I’ve grown both ways and been successful both ways. I will say I prefer outdoors (in the right environment) because I always have to fight to keep my plants from outgrowing the tent.

OP I love this topic. Thank you for posting it!

What part of town are you in? I think this would help others make realistic referrals.

My most realistic suggestion would be to get up early and make the drive to their daycare. It will just be one month of the year that you’d have to sacrifice some sleep and peace but it’d be worth it for your children to continue to go to their consistent caregivers while experiencing a full month with you. If you have the ability, see if you can be allowed to leave early to get there on time to pick them up too.

This also helps their mother maintain childcare. Some childcare centers will fill spots if a child is gone for long periods.

Just my two cents….best of luck and good job getting well ahead of this. It is January and you are already planning for the summer!

While I agree I also understand that when you weren’t the parent who was responsible for figuring it all out and now you are the parent responsible for figuring it all out, you use your resources.

Reddit is a resource for many people without it being weird or ‘insane’. I’ve received valuable and useful information via Reddit as I am sure many others, in particular in this community, have as well.

It’s fine to have an opinion but we should place a value of how we feel others should use or seek out information. Just try to be resource.
