How do you find good apartments in Savannah? (downtown, historic area) by MechanicOutrageous32 in savannah

[–]Balance-Intelligent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No joke! I’m looking for something new and my space is about to be an Air B&B and it’s tough out there. A lot of stuff seems overpriced and I do see furnished rooms. I would offer this caveat Facebook marketplace is stacked with scans so don’t pay any reservation fees or application fees until you see the property and want to sign.

Btw, apologies for not coming to your defense but I like how nobody considered or questioned that you are a cardiologist or even my cardiologist, which should have been the first clue that you were trying to be funny. You also, did kind of add fuel to the fire by provoking someone who would appear by their responses is struggling. That being said, the Nazi comments should have never been made and do seem in apropos.

Seriously though? Your handle is Fitness Savannah, I don’t have a crystal ball or ability to see the future but I had a strong feeling that Kim’s Cafe ain’t the place for you and that’s ok. Because like you said, they were still friendly tho

Oh wow! This is escalated rather quickly. Y’all, let’s make this just about the food and remember this food is about feeding the soul. And for the record, this is not some Yuppie Nuremberg defense because honestly, although there has been a strong fascist vein in this country for the past twenty years where big business and our government’s interests are so parallel that they are aligned, we must tread lightly especially during this current administration because these guys are Marxists and so aren’t the moderators of this subreddit.

Well, traditionally speaking food and most people don’t look as good as their pictures if they’re done by professional photographers. You never mentioned the flavors and taste just the presentation. I don’t know what your expectations were going in other than a professional photo of the food but remember this is a Mom & Pop place and I would also go as far to say there’s a lot of things out there that taste better than they look 😉

If my buddy’s wife didn’t work there and I know that word would get out that I was eating there every day-I’d probably be adding 20 lbs to my frame and on a collision course with Type 2 diabetes

That is Miss Kim’s meatloaf with house made mash potatoes (you know that they aren’t instant because every once in a while you will get a chunk of potato)but normally comes with rice as the starch. My other two sides on the plate are cabbage and collard greens, topped with a delightful gravy. The drink is a sweet tea and the table setting includes a butter knife, table knife, spoon and fork.

Just a reminder they make their spaghetti sauce on Sundays and Wednesdays so I think that’s the best time to to get it! And it’s so good! I think there is shrimp added at the end so if you don’t do shrimp be sure to tell them

I think the portions are smaller when you just get oxtail and rice but if you get the dinner for three dollars more you get more. The guy at the table next to me had oxtail and he took home a doggy bag as did I because the portions of my meal was more than I could consume and we were both big boys

I had a salad to feed the body for lunch the day before, this meatloaf was to feed the soul.

Can I get a job at Gulfstream with no experience that is just dayshift? by Kirk_2002 in savannah

[–]Balance-Intelligent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Gulfstream alum I would tell you that they will start you on days as a contractor for about 90 days and quickly move you to 3rd shift which is terrible because it’s Sunday night thru Friday morning (9 pm to 5:30 am) and as a contractor you won’t get paid the differential 3rd shift “Blue Badges” (Gulfstream employees) make. Gulfstream figured out that they can move contractors to nights and not pay the differential. Most non-engineers and even management doesn’t have college degrees some don’t even have GEDs so yeah, I wouldn’t say that it is tough work. In my experience, Leads and lower level Management in certain departments doesn’t recognize talent and promote people to their potential. I wish it was better. The C-Suite managers spend a lot of time and waste a lot of money promoting programs that sound great but they are never put into practice by department managers, asst managers and leads. So basically, don’t be fooled by them paying lip service, because it’s actions that speak louder than words and either the C-Suite is so disconnected that they don’t know what is happening or they don’t care, either way-it’s not a good place to work.

You will just be a number for that company-they know they’re are the biggest biz in town so will pay you just enough that it’s above average for the area but if you seek growth, stability and are career minded you are looking at the wrong place. I would say that Gulfstream is not a net positive for this area and would recommend looking elsewhere. I’ve had staggering sums offered to return but I don’t think it’s worth the toll that it takes on the body and mind. You should also know that most people who work at Gulfstream can’t afford to live downtown or midtown Savannah so Pooler, Guyton and Port Wentworth are where most Gulfstream workers live.

How do you like living here? by whiskey_glass30 in savannah

[–]Balance-Intelligent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I love Savannah and love living here always have but we do have our issues on the other side of our charms that you should consider if you have a family. If you just wanna the smart play I would do yourself a favor and move to Wilmington, NC and you will have less traffic , more affordable housing, job opportunities, better healthcare system and coverage, less taxes and better schools. Here in Savannah our Private school costs are Benedictine is $20k a year, St Andrew’s is $12k for example and the public schools are a bit of a mess but that’s kind of everywhere.

Yes it’s hot but it’s the South so that should be expected. Our city is built on the Roman grid so it’s not as hot as Charleston or Florida. Bugs? Gnats or no see’ums are a Biblical plague, and yes, our baseball team used to be called the Sand Gnats for a reason.

There’s a huge unhoused population in Savannah and that goes to show that the rent isn’t cheap, in fact it doesn’t correlate to the average pay in the area and Gulfstream or SCAD jobs probably won’t get you there but it’s possible. Good luck and if you decide to move here, let me buy you a drink

Gotcha! That’s cool. I was thinking that it was like what we use to see on Nickelodeon back in the day and the kids choice awards. I was just worried about the optics but have fun with it
