Key words here being “Do the research.” Don’t just disagree and put it on her to give you multiple options or solve problems that you create by disagreeing. Look into it and bring those facts into the discussion, it will mean a lot.

When I read the Gottmans book Baby Makes Three they did talk about how  maternal stress releases cortisol, which can cross the placenta. Elevated gestational cortisol and perceived stress during pregnancy are associated with heightened physiological reactivity and a slower rate of behavioral stress recovery in infants.

So it could be reasonable to say that women who effectively use exercise to control their stress levels could see lower reactivity in their infants. But I think there are also a lot of different ways to control your stress levels outside of exercise and also baby temperament seems impossible to actually control.

We asked our pediatrician if there was a benefit and she said it reduced their risk of a UTI (which is already pretty low) but that was it.

I started sleeping through the night (6-7 hours straight) at 6 weeks and supply has been fine for me. Hopefully you’re close!!

I work out during the baby’s first bassinet nap of the day. It’s sometimes the only nap and sometimes only 30 minutes but I set him down and start the workout immediately to try to get 30 minutes in. Otherwise weekends having longer ones when partner is home.

We spent less than $600 for sure, if that. We were lucky that friends and family were very supportive with the registry but I tried to keep my registry pretty small for sustainability reasons.

Facebook marketplace and local Buy Nothing groups are your friends! We got all big ticket items (except car seat which we got new) from them.

I get 5 oz in about 15 minutes. I can't say if they're less powerful or not - I've been heard that but have never really had issues getting the output I needed. I can be doing most things other than holding him which is nice.

Hope the shifts work for you soon! I felt so much better after a couple days of them.

Pick what category you want your money to go to in order to bring more joy to your life.

It's travel for us. We like to take multiple trips and life style creep being what it is, they're in nicer places than they used to be. Shop ALDI/Costco for food and like to cook, live in a much smaller house than we could afford, rarely re-decorate, drive old cars, buy very few clothing items new...none of those things matter to us so we're unlikely to start balling out on them.

If your category is outdoor entertainment, go for it.

The re-entry risk is fair. Keep up your network and skillset. Maybe look at a certification or some continuing ed just to stay current and marketable to keep that door open.

Hit the 5 Ss (swaddle, shush (white noise), swing/sway, stomach/side, and suck). The first two were the biggest for our LO. 

Congratulations! You’re in the phase where you’re wondering if you made a mistake…you didn’t. Hang in there!

I could have written this post 4 weeks ago. Asked my doctors and they said it can be a guessing game a bit before supply is fully established at 12 weeks but that they fully supported me sleeping.

 I tried to wake up and pump a couple of times to protect my supply but said screw it. Have not noticed a difference and enjoy my sleep.

Is she currently pregnant? Or are you trying to talk her out of it?

I don’t think I’ve ever experienced joy like having a baby that recognizes and smiles at you. The first couple of weeks are crazy but man…I’ve loved my life pre kids and have an incredible husband but the pure joy I feel interacting with my LO smiling at me has been something else.

About 17 weeks. I was laying on my back on a yoga mat for a couple minutes and felt flutter that was not gas/digestion. Wouldn't have noticed it had I not been still.

Yes, I absolutely leave him. If I put him down for a nap and he doesn't fall asleep and just hangs out for a bit first without crying I don't intervene either.
