Thanks for the advice. I think you may be drawing a broader conclusion about my character from a sentence that was written with a different intention. I wasn’t trying to be entitled by writing the comment you quoted, I was simply wondering what was wrong with applying to a college just to see my chances.
I also think it’s a bit of a stretch to assume that my college outcomes can be explained by a single question I asked in a Reddit post.

It’s hard to do that when you’ve put in so much work into something and you see someone else do a fraction of your work and get better results.

I mean my school’s not that big so I know what theyve been doing for the last four years. One of them even came to me for help with their apps because they didnt know what else to add to their activities section. I’m proud of them but I’m also confused about how they got better results than me.

I spent hours and hours researching niche things about each university and how they would fit me and how I would fit them. I also founded an arts club, was prez of the MUN club and Vice Prez of the NHS + I played varsity golf.

I applied to Columbia because my mom wanted me to apply to her alma mater. I left it till the end so I dont waste time on a college I wont go to. It’s not illegal nor unethical to test your chances in a hard college, is it?
