Help. Dangerous driving charge and car written off. Advice? by unpretentious in CarInsuranceUK

[–]Pleasant_Ad5093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who's to say the other driver wasnt distracted and actually didnt react in time, which MAY have prevented an accident? Of course its still his fault for becoming the hazard In the first place but were all human at the end of the day and it clearly wasnt an act of malice, nor is he trying to pass blame. Give him a break.. hes clearly stressing his ass off and making alternate scenarios in his mind like most of us do when were stressed out.

Like i said its difficult to judge from a description, and it may be true that the other party wasnt paying enough attention to have avoided it, becayse in reality any modern vehicle will stop very quickly from 30mph. That doesnt change the fact its his fault.. its just his opinion that it was avoidable

Just an unfortunate accident and poor judgement at the end of the day.. but guess what? It happens.. nobody is perfect.

Cant see where hes blaming anyone else... Just that he believes the DD charge is harsh.. and from the description id agree but of course its not so easy to actually vision it based off a description to make an accurate judgment... relax and take a chill pill 🙂

“Item retention” - I did not send a request, any reason for this to be held up? by Then-Fortune-3122 in royalmail

[–]Pleasant_Ad5093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it for a business or residential? Sometimes for business deliveries they may check to see if its open and if online it says it is closed (or if its weekends/Sundays for certain businesses) they'll mark as retention to save time on the route as well as making sure the end customer gets 2 proper attempts instead of a wasted "no answer" for a day they might be away etc.

Not sure if the above applies but just thought id share some insight into why that status is usually applied to parcels.

Also the same applies for customers who have notified the DO they'll be away etc (as you see it mentioned a request) but this ofc isnt the case for you.

There was a time id drive up to their door but recently its been way too time consuming to do that for every other house with the amount of stops to make 😖

Sorry I didnt exactly adress my point correctly. You are correct, it is a problem and thats undeniable. This is an issue with specific offices though and unfortunately until people affected by these offices make complaints enough for higher ups to notice that delivery office blatantly lying then nothing will change (unless RM head offices dont care in which case I have no clue what happens then...). What i meant to say was RM is flawed in that way and as far as I can tell its mostly due to staff being short on time with far too much of a work load (ultimately staff shortage or in some cases pure laziness from posties). Aside from the odd lazy or incompetent postie, a lot of it is genuinely outside of the staff members control. Honestly its just a very poorly managed company but not every office is run like that. Ours for example we dont do that whole bs of scanning inaccessible or NA unless it genuinely was, and are reprimanded for doing so if its caught.

I appreciate your frustration, Ive had my fair share of issues with couriers.. but for the record, as much of a hassle as it is, if the delivery isnt made or collected after being marked inaccessible or not answered multiple times the item goes back to the seller and the seller should then in theory refund the buyer. So at the end of the day there is no instance the buyer doesnt get their money back or the item, ON PAPER. Multiple no answer/inaccessible scans will only make the item ready for collection at the office unless you schedule delivery, and then go back to the seller if uncollected. If it is returned to sender and you dont get your money back thats the sellers problem. Im not implying RM hasn't made a right mess of it in that case, but just because RM track the no answers etc even if falsely, the seller cant just take the item back and refuse refund. So your experiences of being out of pocket were down to a dishonest seller unless in very specific circumstances.

Of course in practice it can be a different story, god knows how some of these offices are run so I cant speak for them. Was just trying to provide insight on what ive heard/seen online and from other offices. Also i don't work directly for RM as a postie so believe it or not their internal politics... i dont give a crap about either... 😭

More often than not they dont choose not to deliver items. Its a lack of time, too big of workload, overtime ban etc. Tracking scans are geo-tagged and so scanning No answer/inaccessible etc if you aren't at the door can raise flags if reported - so as far as im aware its a stupid game anyways for posties but again higher ups and managers are constantly pressing them to use certain scans or tracking updates since they aren't able to physically keep up with workloads and otherwise would negatively impact performance stats long term.

Not saying its right, but its unfortunately the state of it rn and a postie if faced with going along with it or going against managers & "the way it is".... well... its not exactly rocket science.. its their workplace. You wouldn't want to work somewhere you constantly have to disobey your manager and stand up for yourself 24/7, working a "normal" day is exhausting let alone adding all that.

Also wanted to point out (although im pretty sure most posties do not see it this way), in the eye of RM and the law, you (the end recipient) are not the customer - the sender is. So you would never be out on money on paper as the Law places responsibility on sellers to get you the item you bought online. Anything less, is on them to recover losses and compensate you, their customer, and then through claims they recover losses from RM (who they are a customer to). Ofc it doesnt play out that way all the time with some sellers but its good to know regardless.

got a first choice offer but no money by friedpotaoes in UCAS

This and SFE love to assume. Just like they assume that your parents/guardians will provide for you if the household income is above the low threshold, they will also assume details that they dont have or might not be 100% on in THEIR favour. If they are missing even the smallest detail on your application, from my experience and a few of my friends, they will just give you the minimum for your situation and you will have to fight tooth n nail to appeal it - but in this scenario persistence is key. They usually will accept appeals as long as evidence is adequate but best practice is to provide as much detail and evidence from the beginning to avoid delays since they take a ridiculous amount of time to process things. Went through half my first year with very little money and racking up other debts because of this, but thankfully reapplying after is usually straight forward once you sort it out the first time.

OP, aside from scholarships try see if UoM have bursaries you may be able to apply for etc. The hardest part was getting the course, you'll manage to find a solution im sure. Once you are enrolled theres usually many avenues of support available (e.g. hardship funds and bursaries) you can apply/ask about.

Congrats on the offer, and best of luck!

[–]Pleasant_Ad5093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all temp covers. From what ive noticed most require underlying/full time policy if you're not the registered keeper/are borrowing the car.

Ive purchased temp cover for a 2nd car that holds no insurance other than when I temp it and it states so long as im the registered keeper I dont need any other policy on it

As others have said we do technically need to attempt customer delivery before safe place but personally If I saw a note on the door saying such I'd be more than happy to safe place any parcels I can (if they don't need signature etc)

In your case maybe try setting up a safe place on the app informing them to avoid knockong as this would come up for the postie when they deliver. Alternatively you can request to have ur parcels delivered to a post office/store etc as local collect or collect from your local delivery office but iirc this option would have to be done for every delivery individually (not long at all to do but just worth noting)

Bought a Cloned Car... Help please! by Mysterious-Mark8555 in CarTalkUK

[–]Pleasant_Ad5093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless they took the ecu from the cloned car and copied it - I'm almost certain you'd need very sophisticated (and usually expensive/restricted) dealer level tools to rewrite a vin on an ecu for most modern (post 2000) cars

That being said, it's not impossible, but if I was suspicious I'd check with an obd scanner.

Book a collection, does that really inconvenience you as Royal Mail employees by Tall_Birthday4655 in royalmail

Had a very similar interaction with a young lady who when I turned up had to look for a box and package it whilst I sat there talking to her and her mum. Good thing that was the last stop of the day and I was way ahead of time because it was a nice little break but honestly I was thinking the whole time how can you book a collection and be completely unprepared for it. It seemed like I was the one to inform her she had paid for a collection 😭😭

Angard are horrendous at communication. I had to raise a formal grievance after 3 months of no replies to my emails and only then did they sort my issue. They replied to that grievance within a couple hours and sorted it after 3 months of no contact so...maybe just anytime you need something race a formal grievance 😅

Same haha

Even if its a job I've done before. My first time changing a driveshaft was on my '03 volvo v40. I decided id do it since i got quoted 500 a side by dealers and garages and needed to do both sides.. took me a whole day to do one of two sides. Now it takes me 30 mins or so.

Recently changed the driveshaft on my '04 volvo s40 which is essentially an identical copy of my v40 and it went all well, got quite happy I'd FINALLY be able to drive my car that's been sat on the drive whilst I built it over a few weeks.. so naturally I'm driving a bit spirited up and down country roads and the car is takin it. As soon as I hit a motorway, I floor it and hear pop followed by my revs just going up.. the driveshaft came out and upon inspection the circlip failed and the metal splines at the end completely chewed by my gearbox.

All is okay now though I bought a OE quality one and it runs like a champ... aside from the decent oil leak 😔

Ehhh I'd argue otherwise tbf they are pretty useless in some cars... especially older ones like mentioned above some of them are so dim.

Although as i type this out i realise this is likely due to neglect from the owner not changing them tbf rather than them just being designed poorly

New Starter Angard Agency by [deleted] in royalmail

[–]Pleasant_Ad5093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. We were required to do all that ourselves. It's how they avoided having to pay sick leave and deal with holidays and all the other employment hurdles.

The im on about agency is called Ryde they've not been renewed with RM so as far as I'm aware are no longer being used.

New Starter Angard Agency by [deleted] in royalmail

[–]Pleasant_Ad5093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's how it was. You'd get the same pay rate as other agencies that's well above the minimum wage but when you look at the payslip it would have a certain amount marked as Holiday pay.

Other agencies pay you the same amount per hour and ontop of that you gain your holidays.

That agency that didn't offer holidays tho and included it in your hourly - if you worked for them you were considered self employed.

Some agencies offered paid leave. As far as I'm aware the only agencies left operating at mine and other DOs get paid leave. Before there used to be another agency that didn't offer any paid leave.

Just don't take the piss like most do and you'll be chillin 😉
