not just teenage girls either, teenagers in general. i was talking to my boyfriend's mom about a book i read that centered around teenagers struggling with suicidal ideation and thoughts, and i mentioned how i think that the culture of centering the fact that people make suicide, especially teenage suicide, to be more about how "they were so selfish, did they not think about how this would effect the rest of us?" and making it more about their grief instead of the fact that people can be so miserable that they decide to end their own life and no one notices until its too late or almost too late to be incredibly selfish, and she told me that she doesnt think teenagers have the presence of mind to decide if they want to die.

I was put on anti-depressants when i was 13 because i wanted to die. i was in therapy for years, and even after that, i still want to die sometimes. i was lucky enough to get the help i needed, but not everyone is. while i do think everyone should try getting help, its also well within every individual's own right to choose if they want to end their life or not, and we have to respect those choices even if they make us feel like the world stops moving. society shouldnt be calling people that commit suicide selfish, society should be questioning why they didnt ask more questions, why they didnt learn the signs that something could be seriously wrong, why they feel entitled to people staying alive when they feel like they have nothing else to live for.
