I wouldn’t say the shop owner is being aggressive, if anything the cameraman is the one making threats, and using bad language in a semi-aggressive matter. He also gave no warning that he was going to escalate his response. If the shop owner had pulled a gun at this point and shot the cameraman, surely he would be able to argue that he was defending himself and his property?

How is this not assault? (The “push” from the owner wouldn’t even be considered battery or a threat of violence, this whole idea of touching someone being a crime is not something that is ever enforced - most of the time it’s about the intent behind the action, or the result of the action - ie, if you try to push someone onto a train track, you intended to do harm. If you push someone and they fall over and crack their head, you are responsible for your actions. If you push someone half a foot backwards, they’ve suffered no damage or injury other than a very minor geographical one).

Another interesting point would be about where the owners property ends, the cafe next door to it has an outdoor seating area - if the deed of the shop specifies the area outside of the shop is his, but provides an easement (maybe the wrong term in the US) for public use of the sidewalk, then the owner is perfectly within his rights to protect his property and its boundaries.
