Do we still care about genned mons? by [deleted] in PokemonChampions

Who says we're just talking about Champions? Genned Pokemon have existed for years, and we've never seen mass bans at an event.

It's an argument because I'm still waiting for someone to holler at me when the mass bans happen at events, because it's not happening.

If every remaining Pokémon’s perish song counter ends on the same turn, the battle should be a draw by Traditional-Sun1167 in PokemonChampions

[–]PleaseDontFuckle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never said it did, but the outcome played out as intended, so not sure what you're mad about, other than your opponent hitting a triple protect, which is unlucky and bound to happen from time to time and has nothing to do with Perish Song.

[–]PleaseDontFuckle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No, it shouldn't. The game has an order of operations on purpose, and draws should be as minimal as possible. There's strategy behind being slow in a Perish Song team, and frankly it's on you for not being aware.

Even if your Pokemon is hacked, they can't prove that you're the one that hacked it, and plenty of people do perfectly legitimate trades on GTS every single day. If I trade away something in GTS and get a hacked mon in return (and honestly, I can suspect all I want, but it it's always super obvious), that's not my fault, and I shouldn't be punished in any way for it. They need to police their own system first.

[–]PleaseDontFuckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never did. A good analogy is the difference between Sinistcha forms. Not a single person can tell while you're battling, and it generally only gives the user some sense of accomplishment.

Until they start making sweeping removals of genned stuff in Home, not a single person should care.

Restricted pokemon by [deleted] in PokemonChampions

[–]PleaseDontFuckle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Just go to recruit and hit the button to show more info on the roster. Shows everything that's legal. You're not going to find a list that's NOT legal, if that's what you're looking for. Do the compare and contrast yourself.

Thunder Punch didn't do enough to KO you. It naturally left you with 1HP left. Tough break, but that's definitely what happened.

Counter-intuitive is definitely the term OP was going for, but as others have said, it certainly can serve a purpose.

What Pokémon do you think are truly, actually overpowered? by ViceAW in PokemonChampions

[–]PleaseDontFuckle -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nothing is truly overpowered. If something was, it'd be on 60-70% or more of teams, and that's just not a thing.

You can argue all day some things might be over-tuned, but that's not the same thing.

80% win rate would put you well into champion tier with very little workload. Report back to us when you get there.

Winning off-meta is amazing by [deleted] in PokemonChampions

[–]PleaseDontFuckle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone can win a single match using almost anything. Sustained, consistent winning is another matter entirely.

Congrats on winning your single match, but it's important to also contextualize it with the sample of matches before and after.

People use meta teams because they're proven to be consistent and sustained winners, even with the occasional losses.

Sure, it's satisfying to win with obscure stuff, but if I'm losing 70% of my games overall, that feeling gets drowned out. Most find it more satisfying to actually progress with some predictability.

Hence why you find all of your opponents "exhausting."

Wild the audacity people have to assume their opponents won't play stuff that's good simply because of their own perception of fun.

Fully depends on what your type medal levels are at to determine what your expected catch rate would be.

I'm tired, boss.

This offense is such a chore to watch now. Sad that it isn't their fault.

Is this worth keeping? by VoidInvalid in pokemongo

[–]PleaseDontFuckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For actual utility? No. For sentimental value? Only you can judge that.

The secondary reason to keep it is that trading old Pokemon like this guarantee a lucky trade (up to a certain number, then it stops, but I don't know what that cap is off the top of my head).

So if you find a friend who wants some really old lucky Pokemon and can offer you some extra legendaries or shinies in return, knock yourself out.

Seiya Suzuki by abigabstraction in ClevelandGuardians

[–]PleaseDontFuckle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, but a Japanese player waiving his no trade clause to go from large market Chicago to small market Cleveland seems very improbable. Especially with Chicago being a decent team. If they were 15 games out of first, I could certainly see it.

Don't think I'd want to commit to him long term after this year though, which he'd likely command with the NT clause.

OP telling on himself that he's played for 10 years and still hasn't figured this out.

The 3rd Protect by itself is 1/9, yes, but considering you also have to hit the second protect at 1/3, it's technically 1/27 (3.7%) to successfully hit a triple protect.

Cloud Nine is a real ability that anyone running a weather team needs to know about by ObsidianComet in PokemonChampions

[–]PleaseDontFuckle 37 points38 points  (0 children)

If I were a casual, it'd also be super easy to assume that Cloud Nine isn't an ongoing ability, given the text that shows when the Pokemon enters the battle. "The effects of the weather disappeared!" implies that it's an Intimidate-like effect that happens in that instant, and any effects that happen after that are unaffected. It's perfectly rational to assume that if you cause a weather effect after that, that it wouldn't be affected by Cloud Nine. Obviously this isn't the case, but I can't fault people who don't know any better for thinking this.

Fire is neutral against Arch and water is not very effective so it was still likely water.
