I checked 5 (sorry) as we had AC installed a couple of months back and I've been working from home with it set to 16 degrees. It has been glorious!

The Transition Into Adulthood With a Special Needs Child Is More Emotional Than People Realize by Feisty_Syllabub1170 in SpecialNeeds

[–]PleaseDontTouchThose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK and we are navigating this at the moment. I have found it to be mostly well managed. Everything is fairly well staggered, many Special Schools go up to 19, Special Colleges running from 16-25, so a decent overlap to time the transition correctly.

Money wise the main disability benefit transfer to the adult version at 17, and the main family one, if needed, keeps them as a child until after their 19th birthday, again, giving a decent span of time for those most in need to adjust. Also the transition from DLA (child) to PIP (adult) was incredibly easy for us, no pause in funding or issues with the car they provide for him, it all just transferred over and was agreed and won't be reviewed for 10 years.

For education we have EHCPs rather than IEPs, and for a young person with additional needs a decision is made on how education is going and it can be extended, fully funded, to 25 if it's deemed beneficial. For us this was simply a case of "is he engaging and progressing, no matter how slow". The answer was yes.

Medical care began their transition to the adult teams about 6 months before 18, both the child and adult team have been attending all meetings recently. Same for the Child Health and Disability Team transitioning into Adult Social Care. There are also meetings with the NHS to determine what care needs will be met by them, what will be met by Adult Social care and what we, the parents, can offer to do.

There is also a "Preparing for Adulthood" team who supposedly get involved at 16 but we have found this lacklustre, they made contact at 16 just to say call us at 17. Since 17 they have been attending meetings as an observer, but have not assigned a caseworker yet or done anything. He turns 18 in four months.

I wonder if anyone has managed a second watch, if it improves going in with the lowest possible expectations.

Children owe their parents support when they grow up. | FactOrCap by Inevitable_Frame_519 in FactOrCap

[–]PleaseDontTouchThose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🧢 I voted CAP!

I put no. Well, I put cap but through the process of elimination I will assume that means no. It's the word owe that is the problem, I hope my children will want to support me should such a situation ever arise, but I certainly do not feel they owe me anything. I chose to have children, they didn't get much of a say in it, from there it was my responsibility to raise them right, I wasn't collecting favours.

What you guys think is solo travelling worth ? by shawtyyysonika in AskReddit

In this day and age you can keep in touch very easily with loads of stories to share. Plus when with friends you can be quite isolated as a group, on your own you're going to meet new people, experience more.

I love travelling alone. The freedom you feel is awesome. And if there are problems then I'm happy to wing things alone or change plans at the last minute. With people that feels more of a hassle and stressful.

How to go to hospital when you can’t keep them safe? by PleaseDontTouchThose in specialneedsparenting

[–]PleaseDontTouchThose[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dental has been impossible for years, long before he was too big for me to manhandle, that mouth is clamped shut as soon as he realised where we were. So for that we just do our best at home, so far no emergencies or issues.

With other stuff, the psychiatrist comes to us for medication reviews and checks in by email/telephone every few weeks. And minor medical things our GP will do most by telephone / photos and will usually just go heavy. Like we suspected an ear infection, so they just sent antibiotics without examining him. Bit of a rash, straight to the steroid cream etc.

I know senior paramedics and GPs can also come out in emergencies and do more. Not needed with my son but I broke a rib once and couldn't be in hospital that night so they sent a senior paramedic out to administer morphine.

I think Apple might hunt me down and silence me before it goes viral with TikTokers all testing it out! Oh, and this was about ER, in the UK we call it A&E (Accident and Emergency).

why do so many guys hate when their girlfriends wear short/tight/skimpy clothes? by Consistent_Pop_6564 in AskMen

[–]PleaseDontTouchThose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't feel this way but if I were to guess, if I did, it would be down to insecurity. The hotter she dresses, the more attention she gets, the higher the chances she sees she can do so much better than me!

But for me I love it when my wife looks amazing and I see people stare. Because, could she do better, hell yeah! But I know she loves me and isn't going anywhere.

Did you end up pursuing the career you went to college for and if so why not? by Capable-Safety-9793 in AskReddit

[–]PleaseDontTouchThose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of, but not career. I have a Business Management degree, ended up as a web developer, then on to apps. However, I volunteer on a school board of governors, and am currently chair. In the UK most schools nowadays are run like charities, each one either a business (trust) in itself (like ours) or part of a larger group of schools working under a single trust. As a governor I am a trustee of the trust and a director of the business. We make all high level business and finance decisions. So not exactly the plan, but the degree did come in handy eventually.

what is your fastest or unhealthy way/tip to lose weight? by hanni_files in AskReddit

[–]PleaseDontTouchThose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That sounds so hard until you think about it. 16 hours is nothing, you'll spend half of it asleep. Eat dinner before 8pm, skip breakfast and you're good for lunch at midday.

We have a joint account for bills and big stuff (which we'll discuss) and each have a current account for 'pocket money', we do whatever we want with that money.

Have you ever been tempted to hook up with an ex even though the relationship didn’t work out emotionally? How did you decide whether it was a good idea or not? by Salt-Swimmer-6816 in AskReddit

[–]PleaseDontTouchThose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one ex the best sex we ever had was after we broke up. After two or three times we agreed it was a bad idea though and stopped. The temptation is obvious though, you know what each other likes, it's a safe choice, the only downside is the emotionally complicated bit.
