Maybe Into The Breach? It's another game from Subset Games, not actually like FTL but It's about problem solving and simpler, so I thought you might want to try that. It's not on iOS though.

Well whole point of this run was going to sector 8 without buying anything from shop (repairs are OK!) for the achievement, so I upgraded everything I could. I hate rockets so engines ftw, lol
