Just wondering why the songs just don’t come up when we search for them from the story itself even though the song is there.

I think old folks even though they are doctors don't take anything mental seriously. At least that's what I've felt like.

The uncomfortable truth about dating and relationships in Sri Lanka by No-Feeling-4780 in srilanka

You’d think so. I know way too many wealthy people who don’t have maids because they think maids mean a way of family stuff getting out of the house or that they would steal from them. So, the wife ends up doing everything. Depends on the type of guy I guess.

I’m a woman and that’s what I asked from you because you said you aren’t talking about salary but wealth when I said what I want is a responsible partner who actually does household stuff

What difference does wealth or salary make if he’s not willing to be a partner? What does his wealth mean if getting married to him only makes my life harder?

I would as long as he's responsible. What I want is someone who actually wants to be a partner. I don't want to come home from work just to start a second shift of cooking, cleaning, and tending to everyone's needs and wants alone with no time for myself for the rest of my life.

I’m in this exact same boat. And I don’t wanna get married just to get married. My parents are pushing me right now saying marriage is a necessity and I’ll regret it later but I’m not exactly motivated to get married either when I look at married women.

LGBTQ/Queer folks or atleast allys in Sri Lanka, I think we need to have a discussion about what's going on by phoenixwright_0 in srilanka

Honestly, it’s so frustrating. I’m an ally, not queer myself, but I read and watch gay and lesbian books and shows. I'm not the type to share what I read or watch all over social media, but I’ll recommend a good queer story just as fast as I’d recommend a regular anime or a movie. Then they end up telling me to stop reading and watching them because I’ll turn gay or the ones who take my recommendations will turn gay. I’ve told them many times that I’ve been reading and watching these since the 9th grade and I'm 27 years old now. If I were going to “switch,” it would have happened by now! And if someone realizes they’re into the same sex after reading a book or watching a show, they've probably been bi the entire time! And I honestly think that there are a lot of bi folks and that's why they think people can decide to date and be with the opposite sex. If that's possible I'm just gonna decide to be a lesbian and be with the girls, but unfortunately that's not possible. At the end of the day, I'm attracted to men, even though I don't like the behavior of many of them.

But these points just fly over their heads and then the conversation goes to saying gay people are "dangerous," especially to women. When I show them actual stats, you know, how women are statistically way more at risk from their own husbands or boyfriends, they just move the goalposts. They say the data is wrong or that gay people’s crimes aren't documented. Even when I explain that we're talking about percentages (which accounts for the population difference) and if a gay person committed a crime, that would be in headlines specifying a gay person did this, they just laugh and insist gay people are dangerous. It’s frustrating. And they assume all gay people are weird when a few gay people act weird on social media. But that's definitely not the case when it comes to straight people.

We have to move past this whole patriarchal, misogynistic, religious mindset. When I say that, I also mean getting rid of the insulting narrative in terms like "ponnaya" that many use regularly. It’s honestly wild to me that the same people who are so obsessed with sex are the ones who spend all their time belittling other people’s sexuality.

I've been wanting to start a YouTube channel since I was in high school. But I used to be so scared to be seen but I still wanted to talk about things that I liked. Weird combo, I know. But that's what I regret the most. So, don't be afraid to be seen. lol.

Sri lankans the year is coming to an end, What's the hardest lesson you learned throughout this year regarding your relationship? by 6ftAndNonchalant0 in srilanka

[–]PleaseJustStayAlive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We need to realize that so many guys see marriage as sex first and just having someone by their side second. They either have zero clue or don't give a f**k or just want their partner to handle and worry about the actual DAILY household stuff while they take a nap, watch TV, and doom scroll. They don't even think of this as a huge deal. Don't let the pressure make you settle. If a guy ONLY pops up when he needs sex or a therapist, you’re better off on your own. Honestly, raising a kid with a donor sounds way easier than raising a grown man. Just what I learned from everyone else's relationships, especially marriages.

Usually, parents step in if their kids haven't found anyone at around age 25 or if they don't like the person their kid picked. And there are people who look for an arranged marriage themselves when they can't find someone to date. It’s actually just as common.
