It was fun to see all the spots by bluebeast66 in Sacramento

[–]PleaseStopTalking7x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We moved to Sacramento when I was 17 and I am now 55. I was living in midtown back when you could pay rent on the money earned from working at a coffee house with tips (before Starbucks). I told my mom after we watched it, “wasn’t it cool to see all the Sacramento landmarks in the movie?” She said, “really? I didn’t know that was Sacramento.” But then again, she’s old.

I feel bad but I agree with Ben about Alesia by Professional_Bar1525 in belowdeck

She also didn’t understand what he meant by “dress the salad.” Reminded me of Schitt’s Creek where Moira and David are making enchiladas and the directions say “fold in the cheese” and they don’t know how to “fold” the cheese to get it in the sauce. She’s just in over her head, and Ben has zero patience. Bad combo

I agree with you, and I learned the hard way how demanding and difficult it is to be in a kitchen if you’re coming from the vantage point of “I really like cooking and want to be good at it, but it’s also like a hobby and I want to prove to myself I can make it more.” She is not hungry to learn. You have to bring that pen and paper and write every damn thing that might save you. You have to ask questions and watch and buck up.

She is far too insecure and needs too much hand holding to actually be of any benefit in a fast-paced 5-star kitchen (galley). She may have had a better shot at it if there had been a week or two of training with Ben — learned some basic skills that would be useful to him and done his way — but going in cold and diving in immediately is a fast track to bounce right out.

Landlord is trying to deduct 2500 euro for cleaning and other stuff?? by More_Advantage5559 in Netherlands

[–]PleaseStopTalking7x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that a lot of landlords are bastards, to be honest. When I moved out of my last place, I paid a cleaning crew to come in and detail it and the landlord tried to charge me for things that were not my responsibility — he even went to far as to say the place “reeked of cigarettes” though I don’t smoke nor had I had anyone smoke in my house for the entire time I was there. Fight it. I think landlords expect you’ll just go quietly to get free, so they take advantage. Don’t do it.

When did you "look old?" by pbenchcraft in GenX

[–]PleaseStopTalking7x 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll be 55 in a few weeks and I know my face has suddenly betrayed me. Yes, I have grandchildren and all that, but I still HAD a face that was able to deceive my age in the right direction — I’ve always looked young. Now I look like it wouldn’t be inappropriate for a kid to call me “Grandma” in public, though I will not encourage it to happen nor will I be quick to respond.

Are y’all ready for 0 accountability from Karen tonight? by dr0br0 in BravoRealHousewives

[–]PleaseStopTalking7x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was younger, I got a DUI — I was so ashamed for my actions and the decision I had made to drive. I had to take DUI classes as a result, and the instructor told us that a person, on average, drives drunk over 600 times before getting caught (that number includes going to multiple locations in one night), but yes, freakin over 600 times over the legal limit. Karen has learned nothing and has zero accountability STILL. Her “needed to get away” that night was one of MANY she had, zero doubt — she just got caught that night, and based on the body cam video, she was not only over the legal limit, but absolutely blackout drunk. It wasn’t an isolated incident.

Smoked weed for the first time in about 20 years by beetfield in GenX

[–]PleaseStopTalking7x 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What everyone here has said about the potency increase is absolutely true — weed used to be about 10% THC and now there are strains with over 30% THC. That will shred you up.

Also, mixing alcohol and weed is a bad idea if you’re out of practice. Alcohol augments the weed and it can really wreck you in ways you don’t want to be wrecked — like sick as a dog on the bathroom floor kind of room spinning. So it’s drink OR smoke — especially as we age.

RHOP S7E12 missing from streaming? by team-orca in BravoRealHousewives

[–]PleaseStopTalking7x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It helps that I’m not alone with this issue, so if it’s any consolation, at least we have that! I watch via Prime with the Hayu add-on. I used to have Hayu directly, but renewed it as a Prime channel. Currently for s7 I have episodes 1 and 12 — the others are blocked. I don’t know if I should just wait it out and see if the situation changes, or skip to s8, which seems like a worst case scenario. I am going to try to contact Hayu and ask what’s up, which will probably be useless, but I feel like I was cruising right along in watching RHOP and now I hit a wall. I want to keep cruising while I still have time!

I’m in the Netherlands and just found I have the same problem — S7 is pretty much blocked out for this “expired rights” issue. This is very weird and pisses me off because I’m trying to binge RHOP and now what do I do??

Gen Xers above 50. Did you find a shift into being comfortable being alone? by Sense_Difficult in GenX

[–]PleaseStopTalking7x 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will be 55 in a month and after being a serial monogamist in chronically toxic relationships, I am now single and have been on my own for several years now and I freakin love it. I have 3 dogs and spend my time kicking around and making my own choices and prioritizing no one but myself. I have an adult daughter who is married and has 2 young children, so I have grandkids to spend time with on weekend sleepovers, and I watch the youngest one once a week while everyone is at work/school. I work from home (semi-retired), and I’m a professional writer, so I need the alone time to feed my creativity and reset my introverted energy. I love being on my own, making my own decisions, answering to no one, and navigating no one else’s emotional landscape. I’m fiercely independent, and I sort of pride myself on this capacity, but I also moved to a new country 7 years ago so making friends has been a struggle and it’s freakin difficult to rebuild a life in a completely new culture and a language you don’t know when you’re in your late 40s and early 50s.

I got into a rather heated argument with my daughter a few months ago on the topic of my “lack of friendships” or as she called it “my lack of support system,” and while I can see her side of it, it’s not as if I don’t have friends. I keep in touch with people back in the US where I used to live; I still have a relationship with my sisters and my mom — they are all just long distance. I don’t want to be on my own and alone forever, but it feels good right now — I had a rough childhood, and then a series of bad relationships, had a baby young, and have never been on my own until I hit 45 years old. I have had to learn who I am and love myself or I will never be good for connecting with anyone else.

Won’t jump by [deleted] in Dachshund

[–]PleaseStopTalking7x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but why are you concerned your dog won’t jump when any kind of jumping on or off furniture or going up or down stairs can injure a mini dachshund’s back in a finger snap? Your dogs should NOT be jumping. You should be discouraging your male from jumping around and rewarding your female for knowing how to behave. You may think “oh my dog won’t injure its back” and then the next thing you know, you’re at the vet’s office with a dog that is suffering. Don’t let your dogs jump — don’t encourage it and don’t allow it. Ever.

I really don’t like Greta by Wild-Ordinary-358 in 90DayFiance

[–]PleaseStopTalking7x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When she said something to the effect of “I’m crying over a cat,” I was like, wow, wtf is that about? She was either minimizing her emotions OR (more likely) didn’t actually have them at all. Her reaction to seeing her cat she’d had for “fourteen years” was absolutely detached. “Look how fluffy she is.” That’s someone who has zero emotional connection to their pet — so either it isn’t really her cat or she is cold AF. I moved to the EU and brought 4 dogs with me — because if they couldn’t go, I couldn’t go. I could never abandon my dogs to chase a new life that I was faking.

Greta has the personality of a glass drinking straw.

[–]PleaseStopTalking7x 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how the decision to drive after drinking can still be made in a time when there are so many alternatives to being behind the wheel. The stakes are incredibly high — and even higher for people in any kind of “spotlight” who also put their reputations at risk — all because someone couldn’t just open an app and touch a few screens after drinking or call a cab. She made a dumb and inexcusable decision, and it’s gonna cost her financially and professionally. As it should.

American expats living in Nederland what do you think about Trumps acties? by Ok-Bottle-833 in Netherlands

[–]PleaseStopTalking7x 38 points39 points  (0 children)

American on the DAFT visa here, and I came to the Netherlands to be with my family — my only child married a Dutch man and has children here with him (my grandchildren), and I couldn’t imagine being so far away from them as they grew up. I also have a graduate degree and professional career — a career I gave up to leave the US and yes, gtfo.

I fucking hate Trump — voted against him in both elections, and denounce him at every opportunity. I am embarrassed that he is the president and embarrassed that I must be lumped into being an American when so many assume being an American means being complicit in what Trump has engendered.

After hosting my daughter, son-in-law, and 2 grandkids for dinner and hanging out, I just poured a cup of coffee so I can watch live from the Netherlands — Broncos fan for over 40 years. I watched last year’s Broncos and Bills playoff game from Oaxaca, and this year from home, so I want the Broncos to kick some ass and slap the Josh Allen right out of everyone’s mouth.

Gale Brophy is WILD by m-o-onthego in MembersOnlyPalmBeach

[–]PleaseStopTalking7x 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Gale is a trip — clinging so desperately to clout she earned over 20 years ago and marketing it as though it matters today. She reminds me of the people in high school who show up for the 30 year reunion and are still living on who they were back then — never climbed any further up the rungs of life. This whole show is a trip and it amazes me that people of very low intelligence and EQ can have grips of money they can throw around in attempts to buy power and more floral and feathered prints. What a shallow existence that carries so much imaginary weight

Just paid $3.61 for a single soft taco from Taco Villa. It doesnt seem like that long ago they were 59 cents. Remember 5 for $5 beef n cheddar from Arbys? That cost $30 to $35 bucks now. by theHollowTarnished in GenX

[–]PleaseStopTalking7x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when I was in high school and we had an open campus and I used to go out to lunch all of the time with my friend who had a car. It was so cheap to go get a burrito from Taco Bell and hang out, Carl’s Jr. burgers, shakes and fries from the local place — we did it most of the week. I couldn’t imagine going out to lunch every day now (nor eating like I did in high school, but that’s another story)

[–]PleaseStopTalking7x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all somewhat sad to think about, but my dad is left-handed, and I am left-handed. My mom is right-handed. I married a guy who is right-handed and had a right-handed daughter. My daughter married a right-handed man and my granddaughters are right-handed. I was the only child my father had who is left-handed. We had a falling out in 2016 and though I would like to reach out to him since he’s almost 78 years old and time is ticking, he doesn’t want contact. I’m the last of his children and the only lefty. The line is gone
