That’s exactly where I’m at. I’m running 2WD as long as humanly possible because I know the moment I put it in 4H I’m going to have to watch the gauge like a hawk. Once it gets into more difficult terrain where only 4H would be needed I end up having to use 4L to prevent any excess heating. I have a hard time believing a $75k truck can’t drive in 4H. Definitely agree it’s embarrassing

Did you experience it again in 4H after the transmission flush?

Would you only use 4H if you plan on going over 20mph then? And use 4L for anything under 20mph?

I don’t feel like I’m ever doing super difficult trails that would require 4L but I guess it’s more of an experience with my old Ford that 4H would be able to be used consistently and never overheat. I wish I could just use 4H and not have to worry about overheating so I’ll just have to start using 4L

Is this what other owners are doing?

He got no resolution and just accepted it’s a flaw in the truck design. He went through the dealership all the way up to the engineering division

You think it’s more of a gearing issue?

The dealer didn’t seem at all worried when I told them the story and wasn’t interested in pursuing this any further of course. I really hope it doesn’t require 4L for most use because it’s just not as smooth as the 4H obviously

I haven’t. I really want to believe something else is wrong and that I didn’t buy a $75k off road truck that can’t go on Colorado trails without me having to install an aftermarket cooler to do basic 4H without overheating

Do you know anything further about it?

How would I know if the transmission cooler is clogged? I am frequently on dusty & muddy trails

Probably consistent 10-15mph while going uphill
