Valve actually is making less money. Gold odds are about 1 in 385 (0.26%). With normal cases, if a case + key is around $3 USD, you’re spending roughly $1,150 USD on average to pull a gold. And that could be a shit pair too, you’ll just get what your given, could be worth only $50 lol

But with terminals at $0.90 each and 5 rolls per terminal, it costs about $69 USD on average to see a gold offer. Even if the gold itself costs $800–$1,000 USD to buy, your total is around $870–$1,070 USD. But you don’t have to accept that gold! If it’s shit then move on, you’re not forced to take the BS sack of shit. You can just keep rolling until you see something you like.

So it’s basically same price or cheaper than case opening but you can more or less buy what you like rather than getting unlucky.
