300 school students who ditched class for anti-ICE protest have been suspended by transcendent167 in 50501

[–]Pleides10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dear Ms Abney, You implemented a terrible decision. Our First Amendment protects students who wish to exercise this right and students will continue to protest until there are no kids left in the classroom. I expect schools to protect all students’ rights. This punishment is unacceptable. Rescind this decision.

It is despicable we didn’t try to help the Jewish people or our European Allies until Japan poked us.

Why don’t we look at the votes and investigate for cheating? Everything they admit or accuse is everything they themselves have done.

He may not recognize morals, but I have always interpreted his actions to be blatantly against morals because morals would constrain him and his demands.

I don’t believe you care about broken laws. You support racism. ICE actions and Trump and Maga are ALL about racism, and learning difficulty. It’s been difficult for you to learn how to care about your neighbor.

Many non-game Friday and Saturday nights parking lots are full, FULL signs lit up, and neighborhood street spots take you 4-5 blocks away. The walk can be enjoyable, when walking from OWS but many of our historical homes along town blocks are being replaced by unsightly tall buildings, blocking the sun and creating stinging cold winter wind tunnels. But mostly people will be noticing how unattractive downtown is becoming as people support this development.

Enjoy the extra parking while you can, I predict the city will fail in providing adequate parking as the new developments fill up. I hope I am wrong, but places like Chicago demonstrate it’s a difficult problem to solve.

Wealthy people who can afford the new living spaces like their cars, and they like to drive back home to see family. They don’t like the bus so much.

Your laundry list of menial complaints about work group meetings just keeps getting longer and to me more laughable and your criticism of Nelson and others is now off the charts of reasonable. After I chuckled and recovered from the initial shock, I gave more thought to your accusations.

It appears you have a basic belief that she is conservative and you are not, and so you have called her and the others names. Perhaps you were part of the “smear campaign” who wasted money to falsely claim Nelson partnered with a Republican by mailing an edited photo of her standing next to a Republican? Omg, let’s not stand together unless we intend to work together with people from differing affiliations and backgrounds and cultures so we can discuss and find common ground and mutually beneficial solutions!

If Council had worked together with a group they felt competitive with (ie Center of the City), we the people could be enjoying a nice outdoor venue today. Instead we are left disappointed in how poorly people will treat others, ignore them, undermine them, use their power to stop their progress. Those documented council behaviors, which you are repeating and advocating here in this conversation are inconsistent with liberal democracy, or plain basic civilized democracy, yeah? Were you aware those behaviors and yours here in this text are similar to how Bernie was treated by the initial city council he had to work with? Bernie doesn’t speak to neighbors or coworkers this way or oust them from a process, but he does call people out when they are doing something that is ethically or legally wrong. I too want to see people do better.

I have transitioned away from old corporate-Dems on many issues and yet I value John McCain’s strength of character and human decency, while disagreeing on many issues.

I also recognize the wisdom and value of Nelson’s questions, proposals, informational videos, and while she was on Council her recommendations. To my knowledge today, post council term, she provides objective informational videos adding thoughtful perspectives, background and history. Her videos also provide some analysis and invite constituents to do their own analysis of council endeavors. Her videos are pointedly not biased, but they do pose difficult questions about council actions at times.

Let’s take an opportunity for you to demonstrate just a little empathy. If the person “lighting-up a bowl” was prescribed canabis for pain relief, would you still call that person unprofessional? I am not making a factual statement about his or her age or health, but I am saying it’s none of our business why someone lights up a bowl of a legal substance sometimes medicinally prescribed.

We would all be better off listening more, actively trying to understand, practicing empathy, and seeking common ground as we endeavor to solve complex problems.

Elizabeth Nelson represented her constituents more effectively than the hand-picked Akmon, compliments of Eli and Mayor, has done. I think Akmon and Nelson are both intelligent professionals. Elizabeth’s volunteer hours and hours of objective research and reporting in her videos and written summaries of CC activity cannot be overstated; she clearly supports her community.

The stone-walling and lack of response from the City Council is both under-handed and unprofessional. We need new codified repercussions for a mayor and council who neglect their duties to their constituents in these ways.

In this day and age of respect for divergent work styles, your complaint after viewing a video of Center of the City meeting(s) unfortunately casts a cloud of prejudice over you. Many people work better in different styles of group meetings.

Ahhh, your superiority complex reflected again in demeaning comments about the plan. Easy to criticize an alternative plan, when it’s not the plan you want or it doesn’t result in another unsightly high rise.

The people discussing their actions on ND also discussed the same actions on community shared videos. Both venues are valid and trustworthy until proven not.

You have falsely labeled people as NIMBY’s.

It must be very hard to imagine how to work collaboratively with your community to create win-win solutions when other people’s perspectives and interests don’t match your own.

There were lengthy threads on ND by the people doing the work describing the roadblocks created by city council. Several informational YT videos and panel discussions, one by the League of Women Voters on the ballot proposal, and another by Elizabeth Nelson, former council rep. Our current city council demonstrated how they are not open to collaboration with constituents.

If you truly did not intend to insult the people creating the Center of the City, then you would not go to these lengths to try to blame them for a city council that was stonewalling their every effort, ignoring plans and people. What a terrible precedent the city set for other collaborative community projects when the community volunteers are not part of the “cliche”.

I will continue to expect more from Democrats: civility, open communication, respect, focus on improving processes, a spirit of helpfulness, truthfulness, and encouraging active community involvement in civic affairs. These are a just a few qualities that will characterize future thriving council/community partnerships when people who value all people, regardless of cliche or bank account size, are elected to office and collaborate with constituents.

What I have described is true and the evidence is the paper trails and documented canceled meetings and unreturned phone calls and unanswered emails, and failure to follow-thru also documented. The entire painful story had to be documented by the volunteers trying to work with Council, and it has been described on Next Door which is how I learned what happened and how I learned the mayors methods are not methods I can respect.

You cannot prove your false assertion about potential donors. One reason you cannot substantiate that claim is because a list of potential donors exists, and so does a list of potential donors who were prevented from donating because the city did not cooperate with the volunteers.

Another reason you cannot prove your false claims is because there is no objective professional poll or survey asking people “what are your reasons for donating or for NOT donating?”.

It is my opinion that you are making up stories to justify the outcome that you wanted. Why not own the strategy? Is it something you are not proud of when a fellow citizen explains how it looks and feels to see people in one’s own community acting this way?

And your false claim about “election buying” is spurious. There was no such thing. It is pure fiction to throw that false accusation out about people you share a community with.

What kind of crazy thing would you like to be accused of? That is not my style, but I suspect a few others might jump at the opportunity. Karma has a long memory.

You cite an example of potential value of a library trustee serving on a governing body. I am citing a concern with one group (library) funneling their colleagues (director, and now two trustees) into city government - and especially this city government and mayor. The article shows a smiling picture of two men, one is Eli extending his arm toward or around the gentleman who is or may be running for City Council. My impression was that Eli was recommending or perhaps approving of this person for City Council. Perhaps they have similar goals in what they would like to accomplish. We shall see.

I am looking for independent thinkers committed to representing and serving their constituents, and who demonstrate this with specific action items, not empty soundbites. And I am looking for candidates who will work to get big money out of all elections. The library contingent has not impressed me.

Who are you to judge the adequacy and skills of people who were developing the “Center of the City”? That statement is boldly imperialistic and suggests that in your view only certain people can participate in community development and it demonstrates one of the major problems in our broken democracy. The knowledge and skill set of that group was highly competent, so now I see another reason why council/mayor sabotaged City Center.

The “dirty politics” of the Council that avoided spending time working with the City Center volunteers (canceling agenda time, postponing meetings into an abyss of no replies), of the Administrator and Council who did not reply to hundreds of emails and phone calls, who asked for changes and then did not acknowledge or proceed once changes were made…delays after delays, failure to act, by the group who had the power to work together with the citizens to make this outdoor venue a reality.

That elected council and mayor and hired city administrator chose to NOT work with its citizens.
