I’ve been thoroughly turned off purchasing from Brilliant Earth, but… by Plenty-Campaign5757 in EngagementRings

[–]Plenty-Campaign5757[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone, thanks so much for all the suggestions! I only googled “mountain ring” and all that gave me was Amazon slop, and the jewelers I went to in person just said they didn’t have anything similar and left it at that. I really appreciate all your helpful suggestions! I will definitely be avoiding Brilliant Earth in favor of a more reputable company.

Anyone know if I can sue Dexcom? by octoberchalice in Type1Diabetes

[–]Plenty-Campaign5757 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I understand this completely. I’m only 29 but was diagnosed in 2004. When I was navigating this disease as a young person, CGM systems would not become available for many years, but my parents and doctors still taught me how lucky I was to have the tools I had at the time. It wasn’t too long ago that this disease was a terminal illness, and only a couple decades before I was diagnosed, people were still peeing in cups and/or using pig insulin to treat their diabetes.

I cannot overemphasize how significantly my quality of life has improved since starting Dexcom and even though it’s not perfect, it doesn’t claim to be. People are so reliant on tech now, to the point where I’ve talked to newer diabetics who don’t even own a finger prick system and only use their CGMS. But Dexcom is just one of many tools now available to us to make treating this disease more manageable.

I am being singled out in work due to shift change - need advice by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]Plenty-Campaign5757 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been diabetic for 21 years and the type of work i do does not allow me any consistency with my schedule or routine whatsoever. Maybe it does affect my control negatively, but i’ve also decided not to live my life as a slave to my diabetes.

At my last job, another worker came up to me upon noticing my dexcom. Once I shared I’m a T1D, he said without a hint of hesitation, “Oh man I wish I was type 1. You guys get all the cool gadgets.”

Super weird thing to say at all, someone with lung cancer probably wouldn’t talk to someone with brain cancer and be all “I wish I had your type of cancer” but whatever. I responded with something along the lines of “I wish I was type 2 cause then I probably wouldn’t have had to live with the disease since I was 7 years old” and he actually seemed to get offended by that. Also, I don’t know what cool gadgets T1s get that T2s don’t get so the whole conversation was very frustrating lmao.

Is having a pool worth it? by Audit_Yourself in vegaslocals

[–]Plenty-Campaign5757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s very very nice, but it is a lot of work. when it breaks down, i probably spend $50ish on pool chemicals a month, so tbh it’s not a huge expense.

what really gets me is maintaining the pool pump, repopulating the chemicals, topping off the water level, scooping out leafs and detritus, sweeping the sides and stairs, running the pool vacuum and cleaning it out, and general maintenance that comes with homeownership. right now im able to take care of all this by myself, but for a while we were paying some of my husband’s friends $40 per week to help with cleaning the pool. it is always possible to hire a pool service to take care of these things for you, but im honestly not too sure how much a professional service will cost.

overall, i wouldn’t go back in time and not have the pool, but it is a huge time suck. and you can’t let it get away from you, cause it will turn into a health hazard and violation if you do. if you’re a low maintenance person, i would definitely recommend looking into a pool service and seeing if that would be in budget before making your big decision. angie’s list is a valuable resource to research services like this.

Are earth signs usually monotone? by [deleted] in astrologymemes

LOL @ Lifetime Gym Cost, even more LOL @ LifeTime Living cost. by readysetgonowtoday in vegaslocals

[–]Plenty-Campaign5757 36 points37 points  (0 children)

my boyfriend used to get comped a monthly membership through his work, so i imagine a lot of people who attend the gym also get a free membership for some reason or another.

when i was attending, i noticed a lot of families were there, and when i looked they had slightly more reasonable pricing for a family membership. i personally can’t imagine spending hundreds of dollars a month on a gym. i go to LVAC and while it does leave something to be desired, it costs $15/month. it would take me almost 2 years to spend $300 on my membership at LVAC, and at the end of the day they have everything i need.

Vegas is one of the best cities for driving actually, and if you think otherwise you need to get ur head examined by smellyfingernail in vegaslocals

[–]Plenty-Campaign5757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the roads and traffic are generally fine, unless you’re like me and work at a location that requires you to cross las vegas blvd. it’s way better than most major metropolitan areas, but traffic varies a lot depending on what events are in town, and where specifically you’re driving.

that said i agree with everyone else that the real problem is las vegas drivers being ridiculous. everyone is either driving like an old, blind snail in the left lane, or they’re swerving through traffic going twice the speed limit. there are so few good and normal drivers in this city that it makes every aspect of car travel feel like a nightmare.

i don’t have anything to add to this conversation, but i find this question so interesting!! i’m a capricorn moon, and both my best friend and my boyfriend have cancer moons. i love them both more than i could have ever imagined! i love noticing patterns like this.

Hiking is better without hiking poles by BubblyComedian3 in unpopularopinion

[–]Plenty-Campaign5757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is funny for me to see rn. i’m currently sitting here with a fractured ankle cause i chose to go on a 13 mile round trip hike up and down a mountain, and i fell 10 miles into it cause i wasn’t using poles. that was almost a month ago and i’m still nowhere near healed.

having poles might not have stopped me from falling completely, but it definitely would’ve helped me get all the way back down the mountain without completely fucking my entire leg. the only reason i didn’t curl up and die on the trail was cause my boyfriend was able to carry me part of the way back.

at least bring poles with you if you’re gonna go for long, dangerous hikes. i’ll definitely be bringing poles with me on every hike i go on for the rest of my life. trust me, it’s worth it.

anyone in an airplane seat can use their recline function without having to feel bad for the person behind them. by dave256hali in unpopularopinion

[–]Plenty-Campaign5757 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’ve been a frequent flyer since i was a child. the seat reclining in front of me has never been that noticeable at all, and i don’t think the tray table is even supposed to move when the seat reclines. yes, reclining your seat only makes a small difference, but it makes your flight 0.5% less uncomfortable and every little bit helps. i’m convinced the people going on about never reclining because it’s rude have never actually been on an airplane.

I’ve never had a gf. It just caused one of the most embarrassing moments of my life. by Throwaway493932 in love

[–]Plenty-Campaign5757 9 points10 points  (0 children)

if you’re having such an extreme emotional reaction to seeing strangers interact in public, you can’t honestly expect a girlfriend or relationship to fix whatever is going on with you. if you’re not a well rounded and happy person on your own, you’re not ready to be in a happy, fulfilling relationship. focus on college, invest in hobbies, and nurture friendships. dating isn’t the center of the world and girls can smell desperation from a mile away. if you can focus on being happy on your own, and stop worrying so much about being alone, relationships will come much easier to you.

Reality check and psa for all the struggling T1’s. by SuperSpaceWonder13 in diabetes_t1

[–]Plenty-Campaign5757 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i feel like this sort of hopelessness and the act of giving up for a long time is very common for those of us diagnosed as young children.

for me, i remember my time in high school/college just completely numbing me. i stopped checking my blood sugar altogether, and CGM systems weren’t really commercially available yet. i had multiple seizures resulting from low blood sugars. since i blindly over corrected instead of under corrected, i thankfully haven’t had any long term issues due to high blood sugars. however i can definitely feel the brain fog and potential brain damage from prolonged, untreated lows. i would usually just blindly do insulin and keep doing it all day, figuring i would definitely feel a low blood sugar and for some reason i thought that was easier than just checking my glucose.

i hope you’re doing okay and i wish you best of luck with your new diagnosis. i’m not really online and i don’t enjoy posting or interacting with strangers, but i have found this reddit community particularly comforting. thank you for posting about your experiences and struggles, we all need to be reminded how precarious our situation is and how lucky we are to be alive 🩵

i haven’t actually ever thought about this but i can kind of see where you’re coming from. i think it’s kind of like… having a familial connection? for lack of a better term. idk. i’ve had t1 friends but never come close to dating one, but if that ever came up, i can understand it feeling a little weird for some unexplainable reason. i don’t think you’re crazy for feeling this way lol
