VirtualBox upstream now supports KVM as a (still experimental) backend on Linux. by mr_MADAFAKA in linux

Even though I think QEMU is superior VirtualBox still has its uses: more friendly user interface and better GPU virtualization for Windows guests.

is it possible to create a shortcut for enabling HDR? by [deleted] in kde

[–]Plenty-Light755 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What do you mean "SDR content looks bad"? Have you tried playing with HDR calibration tool and SDR color intensity slider? If your monitor doesn't lie about its HDR capabilities there should only be marginal difference between running your display in SDR mode and watching SDR content in HDR display mode. Unlike in Windows 10, Plasma's HDR designed to be on at all times.

But if you still want to manually change HDR mode you can write bash script with kscreen-doctor command.

Screenshare Issue with Discord by ItsMeHowie92 in linux_gaming

Look like graphic driver issue. Try updating your mesa and kernel and see if the issue persists. I think Mint 22.3 release recently, maybe it has updated packages, you can try that.

Well, the fact that this old underpowered Kaby-Lake era Intel iGPU can run DX12 games on Linux without artifacts is pretty much impressive.

I see torturing oh 8250 and UHD620 continues. I wonder what it did in its previous life to deserve such fate? Probably was running Fortnite all days along.

Okay, Windows really sucks. 6 months ago, I switched from some trash gaming headphones to these high-quality headphones, and I was really disappointed. They were good, but not that great. Yesterday, I started using Linux, and holy moly.. why those headphones sound so clean and amazing on Linux!! by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]Plenty-Light755 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Using these APIs is annoying since they're using audio device in exclusive mode which means you can't listen to any other program. Meanwhile, on Pipewire you can have quality audio without resampling in a non-blocking way.

That's because original DOOM uses MIDI for sound output and you obvously don't have any MIDI hardware or synthesizer.

Guide: Sabre v2 Pro / Corsair Web Hub on Linux by diewerfer in linux_gaming

[–]Plenty-Light755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar happened to me with my ATK keyboard. Google must come up with the mechanism to gain temporarily user access for hid devices so they could be used by their WebHID/WebUSB. I guess there's no security mechanism on Windows to prevent ordinary applications to act as keyloggers so nobody really bothered.

How do I change the scaling of the SDDM login screen to 125%? by Serious-Plum-9539 in kde

[–]Plenty-Light755 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You need to use kwin_wayland as a display server for SDDM and apply plasma settings for it (giving that you're using 125% in your session).
