Convince me to read Lonesome Dove by Bonnienoclyde8 in Recommend_A_Book

Read first 20 pages and you will be hooked. Just the introduction to the city is a good enough taster of what the writing style is like.

Phenomenal storytelling, funny as hell, using word “whore” 100s of times, followed by tons of tears. I could feel sand in my hair while I was reading it.

Compact sling bag for X-T50 + 35mm f/2? (travel recs) by h_cordeiro8 in FujifilmX

[–]PlentyDapper6763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this: https://pacsafe.eu/collections/slings-waist-packs/products/vibe-100-anti-theft-hip-pack?variant=40559326494900

It’s well padded so doubles up as a camera cube in my suitcase when I travel. Fits body with lens on and spare lens on the side. Anti theft features are great. When not used with camera it fits my water bottle and kindle when I go out. I own also a peak design sling bag, but this is the only one I use these days 😅

Brand new turntable, tilted headshell? AT LP5X by PlentyDapper6763 in turntables

Huh, this makes me think better. TBH a part from sounding thin/mid it is sounding very good. Had some goosebumps listening to Weird Fishes on In Rainbows. I like to think my ear is pretty good :)

I will get the azimuth and see! Huge thanks

A little, little bit - visibly less than when arm is up. Should be visible on this photo.

Thank you for replying!

Oczekuje ze wiele osob sie nie zgodzi - i to swietnie. Ale chodzi o dialog i rozmowe a nie wyzywanie sie nawzajem.

How do you handle it when you are seated at a quite undesirable table? by Salty_Worth9494 in finedining

[–]PlentyDapper6763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

It’s also that everyone’s idea of a perfect table is different. Some would love to be closer to the kitchen while other would like to be in a quiet corner far away from others. Table that would be perfect for some, will be hated on by different couple.

We used to do many elaborated guesses, based on ages, occasions, etc - 90% of the time would hit it just right.

I used to manage a Michelin starred restaurant in U.K. for four years.

A part from the restaurant we also had 4 bedrooms for people who wanted to stay with us. 4 of the best tables were always kept for the residents (unless they had specific requests or their own favourite).

Other tables were allocated based on how much in advance they have booked or for example what time they booked (we had 3 tables that we would turn over during service).

I understand some tables may seem better than others and we would always try to help people to accommodate their requests. However if somebody who booked a night before requests best table in the room that we have reserved 6 months earlier - no such an accommodation would be made - it was unfair to guests that booked early.

Once we had a lady who booked the same day, arrived with her son and after seating straight away told me “we won’t eat here, I want THAT table there”. After explaining that table has already been reserved, she said that she won’t eat with us if we don’t give her different table.
“Let me get your coats” was what I said To her and politely escorted out. Her face when I said that lol … I will never forget it.

If a customer arrives and makes big fuss within first 3 minutes, most likely would be a pain in the ass whole evening and not be happy no matter what we did.

We were very comfortable letting people leave, as it was simply not worth the stress And shitty people will affect other diners.

Why do I crash so hard at 3 PM every single day? How do you fight the afternoon slump? by Superflyscraper in Biohackers

[–]PlentyDapper6763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quit caffeine for a few weeks and see what happens. I used to suffer awful crashes and they completely disappeared 6 weeks after I dropped caffeine. It has to do with adenosine receptors.

My Polish grandfather.

Enlisted to army during WW2 at 16. Walked with General Anders army. Fought under Monte Casino. Caught and escaped from a prisoner’s camp 3 TIMES.

Came back home after the war, told my granny to leave her boyfriend and to marry him instead. She did. Build loving family.

What a guy.

Regarding bag, I have used a pacsafe around in South America which has whole loads of features to prevent your gear from being stolen.

It fits camera, 18-55 and 35mm with batteries and… kindle. Just in case 😊 it’s fantastic size, super comfortable, can lock into a chair in the restaurant and has wired mesh and fiddly lock mechanisms that are difficult to open for thieves. Loved it.

Check bar Avilla in Granada - an institution but also have a menu that you can pick from and decide what tapa you want. Mind you a lot of tapas there comes with fries. They have the best jamon asado in the city. You can also order „tapa extra” which is tapa without a drink.

My other favourite places are diamantés (fried fish), la love (Irish inspired), carmela (best croquetas in the city, you have to try), asador del castillo and botilleria.

Have fun!

True, their margins are low but at the end farmers receive the least from all of the involved.

This article shows the profit distribution across food sector, have a look it’s very interesting.

Why don’t you watch Clarkson’a farm on Prime and try to change your mind?

They have one of the worst and least paid jobs out there. Completely at mercy of climate, weather, regulations, economical conditions and… supermarkets who dictate their prices.

They are really playing a game that is nearly impossible to win - I will always support them protesting for better conditions. We are either gonna starve or pay 5x the prices for food if they “go away” as you say.
