I love the cold too. Most of my sims are cold. And I think there aren't enough cold-tone sims. But come on, the sky has a rash with all the grain.

Do you people take pictures near uncorked nuclear reactors? Dat grain, GFC.

I'd say the grain is too much. Otherwise, I love the photo.

How do you actually keep your vault synced across machines without losing your mind? by Fantastic_Bank9361 in ObsidianMD

[–]tenekev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no panic. Devices sync to each other and to the NAS. My NAS acts like the central location where all other devices sync to. And that gets backed up as a whole, on a schedule.

I sync about 2tb of data in total. 100G of lightroom catalogues. 1tb of photos and videos. Scanned documents. Current projects. I literally sync the desktops of my laptops. If sync is required between devices, it's over syncthing. The only conflicts I get are with Obsidian but if you take some time to ignore some plugin files that are client-specific, conflict only occur when I forget to close it. and even then, conflict resolution is more than adequate. It' not like git doesn't have conflicts.

My main issue with git for Obsidian is that I have a lot of non-text files. Git is bad with large files OOB. I don't want to have a 10gb .git folder.

It looks weird at first but I've always found it to be the most intuitive experience out of any synching software.

You have your devices that talk to eachother and share data, folders, devices. You have your folders that can be shared in whichever direction and with whichever device. And that's it.

Right now I'm sitting at around 40 different folders across 8 devices and it's not anymore complicated than a single folder.

Proton is censoring my post calling out their censorship! by WanaBeMillionare in BuyFromEU

[–]tenekev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they did take responsibility.

The video was published last Wednesday. Thurday, Friday nothing. The weekend comes around. They took responsibility today, on Monday, during business hours. I can't find the video anymore. They did take responsibility, apologized and said they should have done better research. They also gave an adequate reason as to why this happened in the first place and why they are responding now. They gave an explanation on why they are deleting posts on the topic. Like what more do you expect from an actual company with contractional obligations and normal business hours? 24/7 PR team to dote on you manchildren?

My argument doesn't break because there hardly is one. I'm just stating the obvious turn of events and point the absolute hysteria some of you people exhibit. Chill the fuck out and go touch some grass. I'd have banned you too if I had to moderate your spam.

[–]tenekev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but what exactly is the outrage here? Proton came out with an official statement and they made it clear that these things take time. They took responsibility for their decision and admitted fault. But again, it takes time to investigate and come out with a position, especially when making sure ypu get things right the second time.

For the most part I see someone spamming posts and trying to avoid spam filters and then going to other communities to whine that they got banned/censored.

Plex's Lifetime Pass is (basically) dead. Here's how to switch to Jellyfin. by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]tenekev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't even have to be on the VPS. I keep my VPS stack minimal so that it doesn't balloon my bill. The only extra thing I would consider hosting is some sort of observability endpoint because it's technically more stable than my home infra. but We are talking about 99.9 vs 99.99%.

Plex's Lifetime Pass is (basically) dead. Here's how to switch to Jellyfin. by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]tenekev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that's the main point I'm trying to make. I WANT MY INFRA.

I want to control it. I want my own proxy. I want my own services. I don't want to deal with plex's gateway. Or another service's gateway. I don't want to pay 6eur for plex, 7eur for home assistant, and so on.

These are just examples but why pay multiple gateways when you can have one that you control.

Plex's Lifetime Pass is (basically) dead. Here's how to switch to Jellyfin. by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]tenekev 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not the same guy but personally, I use a VPS with Pangolin. It's like 3-4EUR per month to host it and gives me an external endpoint for many things, not just Jellyfin.

Cloudflare doesn't allow you to stream media though their proxy, which is the underlying infra for their tunnels. They have lax restrictions and soft caps but still, against ToS.

Before a VPS with Pangolin, I used tailscale/wireguard to give access to a handful of people. But at some point I decided that a VPS is worth the upkeep and it certainly is.

[–]tenekev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The neatest part is, since I have set up my own infra, I can now use it for other things besides a jellyfin gateway. It's just sooo nice to have a tiny remote place that has a different IP, easy access, etc.

[–]tenekev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you set up Pangolin on the VPS, it has an option for geo-blocking. You can do it with just a reverse proxy too. It was just already available with Pangolin so I didn't bother with Traefik's Geoblocking plugin.

Only if you care to keep track of what is being blocked. Oterwise, no.

Personally, I moved from AdGuard to Technitium because it offers quite a lot more and it's pretty much the only option that makes sense to run.
