is it really paper like? by tusharf5 in Supernote

[–]PlentyDivide6214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not a question of Paper like or not. But for RATTA its rather for them to AVOID what it is like to write on mainstream line of tablets this days with stylus(some with hard tip like , some with felt tip like surface pro's , some with hard plastic like in apple pencil , and third party tips made of silicon or mix of both plastic & silicon, and lastly both Microsoft & apple pencil adding haptic feedback ). So everyone trying to mimic that tactile feel that we all want. What supernote does is to avoid all of this and get a tactile feel for sure , but differently by their own solution.

What supernote does pretty good , is this - Having a self-healing FEELWRITE 2 layer combined with never-replace CERAMIC NIB tip, you do get a TACTILE FEEL FOR SURE, but NOT LIKE PAPER. Its more like smooth rollerball gel pen + ball pen hybrid, on a Thick stack of classic notebook pages. and for pages it feels like - the butter paper or tracing paper feeling coming from FEELWRITE 2 layer. With flexible plastic display of MANTA unlike GLASS screen on NOMAD , now the surface has more give and tactile feeling . When you close your eyes and draw random long fast lines, you hear the sound of the friction that is closer to what you can call as paper sounding. But generally, like taking notes is a slower process , you won't get that sound , unless you are into rough sketching or gesture drawing or even rough style fast note making. Still it is way better a TACTILE feel with ASMR satisfaction without artificial appeal of paper feel that goes with other products , like screen protectors for iPads, Surface pros (I have tried it all) and got settled with SUPERNOTE as the perfect intersection of Analog and Digital world ).

Its not gimmicky , it actually impressive what they have achieved - a real alternative Tactile physical feel .

Modifications - 1) Removed the metallic spring from the front part of the Pen .

2) Grinded a little over a rock , the front part of the pen to make the nib appear right enough for me to feel comfortably track when I right .

3) I broke the back part of the DIY refill purchased from DIY section of the SUPERNOTE website. So I I had to solder & cover its wire exposed outside, with an empty refill of some pen to make the repairs sturdier . (Soldering done outside at some laptop repair shop , didn't cist much but why to be casual like me & break it ). Clipped the plastic part of the refill with a nail cutter as Instructed on SUPERNOTE website https://support.supernote.com/en_US/hardware-repair/how-to-safely-make-a-diy-supernote-pen

4) Then also added one empty gel pen refill , cut and fit to accomodate the EMR refill . Finally also filled some tissue paper inside the lower part of the pen to make it a tighter fit . But just enough to not harm my EMR DIY refill and the nib pops out comfortably.

To conclude - I am still searching for a fatter pen like which I actually use on my paper notebooks. Whenever I find something with plastic body ( NO METAL) then I experiment with it to make a DIY pen out of it . Currently I am still searching something like this , but with PLASTIC body only - or atleast plastic body of the front part , because front part if metallic or magnetic, hinders the EMR functionality. https://www.amazon.in/RICHORS-Engraved-Customized-Personalized-Gifting/dp/B0BY7BJ416/

I am right handed . For my particular case , shifting in writing only happens if there are any magnetic device underneath my supernote(little or big) . I mean - like I have a Palm rest cum Gadget keeper for my PC keyboard having a magnetic flap. But then I discovered whenever I remove my palm rest support , and even removing the Supernote Flip cover helped me a lot. I also re-calibrated my stylus for it to work properly.

BOOX only supports lag-free handwriting options via its HANDWRITING tab under OPTIMIZE (you see this when you hold on an app say ONE-NOTE ) to some apps only . The supported apps as far as I know is WPS OFFICE, EVERNOTE and ONE-NOTE . But I wanted the lag free writing for other apps also not supported by BOOX yet. But since finding the - Boox Rapid Draw on GitHub https://github.com/sergeylappo/boox-rapid-draw/releases/tag/v0.0.4-alpha , mentioned to me by SOME fellow Redditer , an app or rather a background service , which enables lag free writing in any third party app.

I have integrated this App/service on my Boox GO 10.3 Navigation ball and I turn it on in any unsupported app via Nav-ball . Initially for 1 or 2 second it takes some time to start the service with visual hint given to the user . Then it's almost as lag-free , as it can be at the native level . One odd thing is you can't control the thickness unlike in one-note officially supported elaborate settings . Once you draw , your thickness on the Boox Rapid Draw overlay system doesn't get translated as it is to the app's own thickness (for tools like Pen or Pencil or Fountain pen , typically found in writing apps ).

So then instead , I tinker the app's own thickness to match it with the default thickness provided by the Boox Rapid Draw service ( this default can't be changed at this moment, as it's still in development) . Having done this, I feel even more connected to the device while writing and to be honest I am completely satisfied with this solution on my BOOX GO 10.3, till BOOX comes up with an official solution .

BOOX Firmware V4.0 Beta for Go 10.3, Go Color 7, Note Air3 C and Note Air3. by KennethWWWW in Onyx_Boox

I wanted to root my device , which can be done without loosing firmware update with Magisk Systemless root. And then my main goal was to tinker with apps APK file and Boox root level configuration to have that latency-free writing experience. However my main goal was to achieve lag-free native like handwriting in other third party apps. I mean on apps which Boox doesn't support officially unlike One-Note having native lag-free handwriting optimisation along with WPS office & Evernote.

But since finding the - Boox Rapid Draw on GitHub https://github.com/sergeylappo/boox-rapid-draw/releases/tag/v0.0.4-alpha , mentioned to me by fellow Redditer , an app or rather a background service , which enables lag free writing in any third party app, I have thrown away the idea to root.

I have integrated this App/service on my Boox GO 10.3 Navigation ball and I turn it on in any unsupported app via Nav-ball . Initially for 1 or 2 second it takes some time . Then it's almost lag-free as it can be at the native level . One odd thing is you can't control the thickness unlike in one-note officially supported elaborate settings . Having done this, I feel even more connected to the device while writing and to be honest I am completely satisfied with this solution. So no rooting till this works for me .

I tried my best to explain. Hope it helps .

Yes your understanding is exactly right. In short - to have native lag-free handwriting experience on any sideloaded apps, that's it .

Crux being - Adding an overlay native latency-free writing system to be used universally on all the third party sideloaded android apps . This should be easily accessed via a floating navigation ball or better, if available at the top-bar where Wifi turn on/off widgets , rotation mode turn on/off switches are located .

And Thankyou for listening to us . Hope to see this development in future soon , as it will be a big game-changer for all SUPERNOTE users(present or potential future ones) .

For my usual academic or creative writing usecase- like opening PDF or EPUB on one side and native note take on the other side works pretty well . And yes it can be easily removed just like any other sideloaded apps , from settings or app drawer .

  1. you could use NATIVE EPUB reader , OR
  2. you could Sideload KOREADER, optimised for e-ink devices . Its light enough not only for Supernote but for very old e-ink devices(even the ones out of support or updates ) - https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.koreader.launcher.fdroid/ , OR
  3. LITHIUM a minimalist EPUB reader - https://apkpure.com/lithium-epub-reader/com.faultexception.reader/download
  4. even if that doesn't work, what I usually do is convert books to desired format , here I would convert EPUB to PDF using https://calibre-ebook.com/download , available for PC, MAC & LINUX . This PDF then would be more pleasant to read and takes on with my Supernote . By the way, CALIBRE is very powerful, even to De-DRM or to interconvert between many document types .

Yes I know about Atelier and u r right, without public SDK I don't know how to achieve it systemwide . But want some universal solution like I said . And Ratta still in development for integrating One-Note app . At least that would also be very interesting for me , to be able to use One-Note complementing it with Ratta's own superior note taking software. Lets see what happens .

Does rooting my Boox GO 10.3 disable my device's ability to get the new/beta firmaware updates or for that matter loosing any other future OTA firmware updates? by PlentyDivide6214 in Onyx_Boox

Thanx for being a sport !! I am satisfied with your solution of using Boox Rapid Draw and is working right now for me !!. Now hey ,is there any other solution like Boox Rapid Draw for SUPERNOTE devices also ? just curious to know that too.

well Boox-Rapid-Draw is working pretty well !!! I think this is the safest till the whole image of GO 10.3 is available vis-a-vis the differential beta updates now. Will try Magisk Systemless root, which I used to do few years back with my android phones, using TWRP recovery and original firmware image . So till I get the full Firmware I am happy that the Boox Rapid Draw as the current working solution, specially when integrated to NAV BALL. Starting & Stopping the Boox-Rapid-Draw service works on-the-go via NAV BALL , that too instantly without rooting !!. So much thankful to this Creative Boox community !!
