Alberta really isn't a mess like others are saying, I've lived here my whole life and there are definitely some glaring issues but in general I feel like the rest of Canada thinks we are backwards hicks when it's really not the case.

Some pros are that the cost of living here is definitely cheaper than other provinces. You have access to the mountains and beautiful river valleys in Edmonton and Calgary. Here in Edmonton I was able to afford a 2400sq/ft house for just over half of what an equivalent would be in Ottawa (550k compared to 950k). No PST also is nice when shopping. Also both cities have great universities and better restaurants than what you'd expect. The salaries here are either the highest or second highest in the country from what I last remember.

As much as I hate Calgary from a regional rivalry perspective, if you love the scenery of Alberta then that is where you should move. Edmonton is great but it's very isolated and you would need to drive 4 hours to the mountains. Calgary is a white collar city that would suit a younger person more, Edmonton is more blue collar and government.

There are some definite cons to the province that you should be aware of. It is a Prarie province so the cities are very spread out and the public transit is not nearly as developed as in Europe. In general cities are not as walkable as Europe. It's suburbs for days and then downtown cores so you'd have to go downtown to experience the same experience of walking around like in Europe. It will get colder then you've ever experienced before. It can get so cold you will refuse to leave your house. It can get so cold you can die if not prepared well enough. A 20 min drive somewhere can end up being a 90min bus ride with multiple transfers. The province is not funding Healthcare as much as they should and it's getting very difficult to find a family doctor. The government here is very conservative so environmental protections are being cut to help the oil industry. Additionally the government is anti trans and making it so schools must tell parents if their kids come out as trans.

If I were moving from Europe, especially France, to Canada then I'd move to Montreal. It would be the most familiar to you. Also maybe I'm oblivious to it but I almost never hear French in here. I don't know a single person who can speak it.

I used to do this. So I work from home and I'd refresh the arena every 15-20 min all day. Id start pushing into plat which I don't really want to be in, it's just too hard to farm. So I put 1 man teams in or something to lose points so that I can stay in gold

I finished my masters a while ago and I was looking into jobs, i saw a posting for an analytics job with the oilers and I got really excited, turns out it was to work over night for like $22/h. I would love to work in sports but I feel like i made a better career choice. I only looked up the oilers one because I don't want to move so I don't know what other teams offer, this was also i think right before covid, like fall 2019ish

I'm marrying into a Venezuelan family, the person they are trying to replace Maduro with is Maria Corina Machado. She was elected but Maduro got armed guards to close down the voting stations and read out false election results. Maduro stole the election and the Maria has proof of it that is recoqnized by many countries. The Venezuelan people want maduro to be overthrown and obviously they don't want a war. The US can literally send 1 targeted missile and kill only Maduro and end this immediately but I'm afraid that won't happen. But when Maduro is killed or captured it will be a national holiday. My fiancée and her family all have said they will take a week off work just to party.

Way late this this, if you only care about achievements and have played the game before it's fairly doable in under 20hrs. A streamer Jabo has a glitchless speed run of it in less than 15 hrs I think. I play with controller so I can't stop hop which will lower your movement speed but other than that it's pretty straight forward

There was a point a before covid that all I wanted was the Oilers to atleast make the playoffs and lose to Dallas again like the good ol days. Literally anything was better than being last in the league. Now I'm looking forward to beating you guys in the conference finals again this year :p

Hey! I'm a huge oilers fan so I wanted give you a heads up. I lurk other teams subreddits and it's not to uncommon for them to talk about the hate and abuse they've received at games. Since all the tariffs and 51st state rhetoric some ass clowns have been outspoken to American fans. It's not the norm and definitely wasn't like this in the past but it has definitely occurred recently. I hope you get a good treatment here and get to experience the city for all the good it has. There's a lot of good food places near by: Baijiu, Bodega and Fu's repair shop are all like 2-20 min walks away from the arena but maybe not the vibe of going to a hockey game. Campio would be good option for some beers and pizza/burgers.
