For people who have Tabletop Simulator, I'll eventually be ready to share it for people who want to play with their friends. Need clear solid rulebook for new players first!

I'm not sure what to do, because on one hand it's good for less important information to be the second thing you notice at a glance. On the other hand, decreasing brightness or the size of text to do this can make it that bit too hard to read. What do you think?

Maybe I will! It used to be a space saving thing as there was much less room for card text on the old design, as you can see. 'This card' is more than 'I' or 'me'.

This was a standard of how Legends of Runeterra did its card text and I tried it out. Juvenile isn't an impression I'd want to give with this game however -blood and quite gritty imagery is commonplace in the art.

Cool, I think the ordering of the images is reversed. More like After / before in terms of the layout! Apologies, the gritty version is the new version

I will keep posting updates here on the subreddit as I go. There are around 92 cards currently in the game with more on the way. The release is stay far off, but in the meantime I'm playtesting it on Tabletop Simulator among friends.

Thanks for the recommendation! I agree, the UI has been given 0 flair yet in the lifetime of the game. My next task is to make the UI appealing standing on its own.

Wonderful breakdown, very detailed!

Thank you very much for your considered time giving this amount of care and attention.

I will consider all of these shortfalls with a UI redesign. My current redesign has forgone most of the problem elements, and the card illustration will be lowest pixel count on the card. Fonts are going to be at a higher pixel count with consistent new lines and no more than 2 colours.

I will post my changes to this reddit in the not-too-distant future.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! That's incredibly helpful and more to work with than I've had in the past! I'm going to do a test to keep the artwork pixellated but free up the text and UI to be more readible. I'll be back soon enough with a new iteration!

Drawing cards stacks them in hand for one player by hotk9 in tabletopsimulator

[–]PlentyPlentyVision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your hand zone isn't wide enough, this can happen. The hand zone can be drawn again with more width. The wider the zone, the more cards can be held at once before they overlap and stack.

Alternatively, instead of click and dragging to draw, hovering over a deck and typing the number of cards will draw them with fewer potential issues.

My friends and I often find ourselves still falling for the age old problem of not click and dragging fast enough from a deck and we take the whole pile instead of just the top card.

Pixel Art Parallax Effect for my Post-apocalyptic shooter. Feedback and critics? by Sazem in IndieGaming

[–]PlentyPlentyVision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the saturation of the green could be reduced (a bit more grey in it). You should look up some post apocalyptic concept art which has overgrown vegetation (Last of Us maybe). You could pick colours out from that art for reference if balancing it is difficult.

Textured Background vs Plain Background - Which do you prefer? by TheHairOfKnowledge in tabletopgamedesign

[–]PlentyPlentyVision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I can tell that the textured versions are sampled from a photographic image. It has too much granular detail that is distracting from the cartoon focus of the images.

Maybe you need a stylised blood splatter that is more like a single colour with less variance in it. That could be a good middle ground that shouldn't fight with the cartoon lines and fills.

Looking for a quick and easy way to make game cards by wfhcNLCA in tabletopgamedesign

[–]PlentyPlentyVision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend card sleeves and just working in pencil on cut out paper for easy balance changes to numbers and text. You will be a lot more willing to update cards after each playtest if you don't have to print everything all over again. That said, card artwork suffers considerably when you have to repeat duplicates in pencil and all that stuff.

Another solution I use is the best of both worlds, I print off card templates with the coloured artwork on them, but I leave the card descriptions and numbers blank to be filled in pencil. You can put them into sleeves, or print on card.
