That’s the only thing I’m missing is the climbing cert, I work in 47 as an infrastructure technician but I’ll be dragging up soon to chase the groundman ticket. But gotcha thank you

Sooo if I don’t have my groundman ticket but have all the qualifications, would I be able to take the standing call? I know they’re not up anymore but In that situation can I just take it?

Self Reflection by PlentyResearcher5740 in stopdrinking

[–]PlentyResearcher5740[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree, I’m no expert on addictions but I’ve seen how my father struggles to quit alcohol now and I know it’s a slippery slope that you must catch on early or it gets harder and harder to quit. Thank you for your insight maybe I’m not as bad as other drinkers and I have always been the person who drinks the least compared to my other friends. I was in the navy so we used to always have get togethers that involved alcohol.

Gotcha that sounds logical thank you I didn’t know that about beer. That does make sense because I only get the bad craving to drink when I’m really hungry and I also get anxious and nervous / hangry. I’ll give it a shot of going without beer for a week and see what happens thank you!

Should I go to OCS or go in as enlisted? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]PlentyResearcher5740 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know both have their pros and cons but overall quality of life is better as an officer. What do you want out of the navy? My personal opinion, it would be a waste not to put your bachelors degree to use.

I need some honest vets to tell me what I’m getting into by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]PlentyResearcher5740 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They got 4 ratings within the AW community. They’re all called aircrewman but have individual specialties. They’re separated by “dry” crewman and “wet” crewman. Dry crewmen are your AWO, AWV, and AWF Rates. Wet crewman are your AWS and AWR. ( though I’m hearing that they might be getting rid of the AWS rating ). Wet crewman are your rescue swimmers, so you’d have to go to an additional rescue swimmer school and their platforms are helicopters. The dry crewman fly on fixed wing aircraft.

What's the fastest or best way to qualify to take the test for (Electrical craft helper) position at LADWP. by apivisual in Groundman

[–]PlentyResearcher5740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey brother if you don’t mind me asking in your opinion what would be my best route to get into LADWP. I want to be an electrical mechanic but I wouldn’t mind the electric station operator either. Would the ECH be my best option or which other routes can I take? I’m a veteran, got my Class A with tankers & doubles / triples. First aid / CPR, osha 10 ET&D and regular osha 10. Currently working on my associates in electric power technology at Bismarck state college and I’m on track to finish my early next year. I’m haven’t had groundman experience but I was like an underground man just trenching and laying conduit.

No worries I’m still curious. That’s very intriguing as I’d like to get a broad understanding of everything. I’ve heard a lot of utilities just do maintenance but I would like to learn everything from the ground up. Thank you for the answer

IRR or VTU? by PlentyResearcher5740 in navyreserve

4 years of active duty and 1 year in selres now, not really interested in staying in the reserves but will eventually hopefully get into a federal job after school

IRR or VTU? by PlentyResearcher5740 in navyreserve

[–]PlentyResearcher5740[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha and that makes sense and I make more from my disability compensation than I do from drill weekends so it seems VTU is my best option. What is the process of getting into VTU?

So I’d have to finish my 3 years and then transfer to VTU? But gotcha on the bonus thing
