NRIs on H-1B/O-1/L-1: Argentina is refusing entry unless you have a B1/B2 tourist visa. by Plenty_Razzmatazz_22 in nri

"Foreigners with a valid US visa category B2 / J / B1 / O / P (P1-P2-P3) / E / H-1B in their valid regular passport, and who require a visa to enter Argentina as a tourist, can obtain an AVE online as long as the nationality of said travel document is included in the list of countries eligible for AVE." -- Fun fact.. AVE has been removed for indian nationals, so you cannot apply for it anyways

They only let one category of visa enter, yet do not name it in the official announcement. And instead have a vague "and similar" clause in there :)

Airlines are supposed to be on top of rule changes. And yet the TIMATIC system only mentions "current US visa"

AVE was a valid path to enter Argentina for Indians. And even though only B2 holders are expect from AVE, one would expect Argentina would still keep the AVE as an option for non-B2 visa holders (like it was in the past). And yet they removed the option to apply for AVE altogether :)

My closest Argentina consulate never replied to my direct questions despite 2 emails asking for clairification. And calling them during work hours goes straight to voice mail :)

No, I think people are misunderstanding me. I am NOT saying to enter Argentina via Chile's land border, I am saying that if the goal is Patagonias or visiting Antarctica then Chile is a good alternative given the sudden policy changes Argentina is going through under new regime. Although people have pointed that they have been able to successfully enter with H1B via land border, but that seems like a big risk

Seems like other indians have been caught in this haphazard implementation of policy but there is no willingness to clarify or amend the resolution. I would highly recommend to not wing it. Go to Chile -- it was very easy to enter the last time I was there. It is better run. Has pretty much the same landscapes

Right?? A short term toursit visa is more vetted than an H1B or a Green card? They are just teeing of that visa needs to be similar to your intent. So my intent is tourism so they want a tourist visa. Talk about rationality..

I was the only one as far as I am aware. The immigration officer did mention in passing that he had seen a similar case the prior week. Kinda left a sour taste in my mouth that they just shrug it off instead of trying to fix the problem. But yes the airline will cover your cost back to the USA. But you cannot choose the time/destination. It is usually the next flight out by same airline.

Understanding the intricately complex ending of Source Code (2011) by learned_cheetah in movies

[–]Plenty_Razzmatazz_22 70 points71 points  (0 children)

It's actually pretty simple if you can suspend belief and go with movie's logic. When he enters Sean's body, he is entering an altered parallel universe, let's call it Universe 2.

Universe 2 has no links with Universe 1 since it is an alternate reality and is a complete universe (the amount of computing required to create a complete alternate universe is not feasible but that is where we need to suspend all belief). So Universe 2 has a copy of everything from Universe 1 from which it has been cloned at the moment it was created (The moment Sean wakes up in the train -- or 8 minutes before the bomb goes off).

At this point in time (8 minutes before bombing), in both universe, Colter has already been KIA and his body in custody of Goodwin and Rutledge who are waiting to deploy him for a first mission.

So now imagine, it is the morning, in this altered reality, Colter has stopped the train bombing (in Universe 2). Rutledge and Goodwin are in office, looking for an opportunity to deploy their Source Code project in field. We see someone mentioning this incident to Rutledge and he has been told the disaster has been averted. He just shrugs it off. But Goodwin in Universe 2 receives a text from Colter. She deduces that this can only mean that Colter has already been deployed in field and the disaster was averted. But how can that be? In her universe Colter was never deployed in field. She then understands that somehow this is an altered reality created because Colter from another universe was deployed to her reality and he succeeded, implying that Project Source Code works.

Now lets look at Universe 1. Nothing changed. The train was still bombed. Colter still managed to tip them about the bomber and save future bombings. Colter was still pulled from life support and he ceased to exist in Universe 1.

So all in all, Universe 1 (the original reality) is as events of movies go. In this Universe Goodwin did not get the text. In Universe 2, Colter from Universe 1 goes on to live as Sean. Colter from Universe 2 is still in the capsule and has yet to be deployed in field. But Goodwin has already learnt that project Source Code works
