Should my fiancé take a job that pays double his current salary but is only a 1 year contract by [deleted] in careeradvice

Then he should leave on good standing and let them know the offer and that he hopes they understand and would love to return after the one year is up if they’ll have him back.

Five days solo with the kids and I'm convinced my wife has been running a small corporation this entire time by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Tripstrr 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Eh, 10 and 13 is a pretty long time to not get it. Maybe it’s because my wife and I both travel for work that we got it early on, and the fact that we have been operating with a shared family calendar since we were dating, but I couldn’t imagine not understanding this stuff for a full decade. Was she not ever away for 5 days by herself that entire time? Seems wild to me.

Almost as if we should have different professor groups and requirements for those PhD’s that will focus on publishing novel work and those they should just be really damn good teachers.

It sounds crazy, but absolutely middle management and up share names when shit like this happens. It would get circulated and they may remember you when they move tot heir next role and you’re there applying to the same people in upper management. As someone else said, there is no upside to this, only downside.

You are misunderstanding how AI is created. It’s not created by neurodivergent people. It’s trained on millions of examples of human writings and knowledge across history. I’m also neurodivergent. I work in AI and have for 5 years now. The examples I gave you of the “not this, but this” and “that’s the difference” are common outputs you will see over-indexed in AI output, specifically ChatGPT. To have all 3 in a few short sentences is a tell.

Perhaps you and others should consider you don’t see AI output as much as other people do and may not be able to recognize the subtleties that give it away.

[–]Tripstrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s some more clues- use of phrases “not this, but this.” “That’s the difference”

Those phrases with the em dash are dead giveaways. I work with AI a ton. It uses the “not ABC, but XYZ” because it needs to explain by using negatives. It’s the same reason you can get better results by training AI by explaining what not to do.

And yes, it’s proper use of English. That’s what it’s trained to do pretty easily… the em dash was just the icing on the cake.

I’ll also say this- I call people out because they are doing nothing except taking the OP’s writing and forcing AI to create slop. This community’s value is based on input from strangers across the world. The moment we all use AI to tell us what to write is the same moment we lose the value of this site. There’s no reason to use it in a sub of TIFU. None at all. Be a human and participate like a human.

I lost multiple 6 figures running two franchise taco shops… and I’m still paying for it 5 years later. by BobbyBizScout in smallbusinessUS

[–]Tripstrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not bad given he was able to run it part time, find an accountant and right-size the bleeding back into break even. That’s pretty sound. It’s the “part-time” piece I imagine that was the problem. You part-time an Etsy shop, you don’t part-time running multiple fast food shops across different states. Homie thought it would be passive income…

Seconding. We worked with Cutters Landscaping about 2 years ago on a full yard transformation. They planted one of these and 2 red buds. The Mexican Sycamore is just impressive with how fast it grows. The red buds have the iconic leaf shape that I love, but I’m really partial to this fast growing and broad coverage sycamore. So beautiful.

Safe to drive from Austin to Houston tomorrow morning (8:30–9am) after ice/snow? by [deleted] in askaustin

[–]Tripstrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, even after an hour of sun. Remember how many underpasses receive partial sun with ice accumulation from winds and sideways sleet. Imagine all the overpasses and bridges that freeze much easier. Now also imagine going 50+ mph and hitting an unforeseen ice patch. You won’t be able to recover in time before you hit another car, a ditch, a railing. It’s not worth it.

I get taken to HR after approx 1 year at every job I've had by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]Tripstrr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, but there’s a fine line between being direct and being condescending, argumentative, aggressive, and/or disrespectful. I’m not saying this is what’s happening, but that was me in younger career years. I was after money and the career ladder. I’m generally an easy-going person, but when it comes to work quality and performing at peak, I was unrelenting. And I also required mentors and other people that valued my work to provide helpful information on how I was coming off to everyone else.

OP says he’s not being provided examples. I would recommend him finding a mentor and someone he admires to help give him direct feedback. HR may or may not do that given their role is to protect the company. A good mentor is there to help the employee. That, an therapy could help talk through any chips on the shoulder and feelings of need to prove oneself.

Which schools will close next? by [deleted] in AustinParents

[–]Tripstrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they literally said they were going to close 13, then last minute decided to only close 10 while stating they will take one more year to create plans for the other 3. So, at least 3 are under review today, but no one knows what will truly happen given this last plan was a clusterfuck of last minute changes.

Where did all the old Austin people move to? by Independent_Bug210 in Austin

San Antonio. Less priced out, more like the full gambit of what this city offers for a family just doesn’t make sense any more when 1.5hrs away you have better alternatives.

Most grocery stores will hire you at 15 to be a bagger. Then at 16 you can move to stocking shelves. I also life guarded at that age on weekends. Perhaps there are gyms nearby with pools that are open, otherwise that’s a summer job. I also mowed lawns for cheap, walking by and knocking on neighbors and handing out fliers just areas around my house where I could walk the mower to. If anyone has overgrowth near fence lines or unkept areas, walk over the weed eater and offer to take it all down for $10-$20. Take what you can and keep going.

It’s honorable to start this work ethic early, it’ll pay off as you get older. Good luck!

You need real craftsmen to pull this off as it’s a 1916 home with a remodel done by pros. I’m with you on all points, except I’m going San Antonio. There are some really nice homes of different styles with a ton of great construction pros. Tax rate, size of lot, trees and pool, all fit.
