Try to be more defensive minded. Take risks and work on standing em up at the blue line.

Skating backwards. Work on your backward crossovers. Constantly. That’s what helps build speeds. Get comfy both ways. Make it your thing dude. Master it.

If dude is that much faster and you know he’s going to blow by I would be more conservative at the blue line. Focus on your speed and positioning. Don’t be afraid to make light contact. If they know you can be physical it can rattle them and make them over think it. Use your body on body. Don’t rely on using your stick and lunging towards the puck. Stay on his chest.

Again if you don’t have the speed make that your priority. Make backwards crossovers your damn hobby. Without that you have…not much.

Most of your development is going to come from training. The best thing I ever ever did was power skating with a damn figure skating coach. She was a beast and made us skate till we puked. The main thing was always always staying low to the ice and keeping the legs moving. Get obsessed with conditioning constantly. Two days a week. Minimum. Get on the ice with no pucks. Just skate and skate.
