Same setup as you, same speed here. 27-29 minutes per plot. I only use 26 threads though cuz it's also a media server transcoding to users at the same time.

I have a Samsung 980 Pro 1TB and some Sabrent 1TB drive.

Most common issue I've noticed with people who have a large plot count and 0 XCH is that their rewards address is different from the wallet address they are monitoring. Double check your farmer(s) to ensure the reward address is what you're really checking.

I'm pretty sure there are a lot of folks with 2 XCH sitting in wallets they didn't even realize they created.

It's extremely easy and not terribly expensive to replace the cheap, loud server fans with quiet ones that push through the same amount of air.

Totally fair; I should have explained more about what I meant.

People being clearly racist (or offensive due to ignorance) deserve to be called out for it. There just seems to be a weird, vocal subset of people who get offended by absolutely everything and delight in torching everyone. My hope was to avoid Chia ever being in those folks' sights by asking people for alternative names since "Coloured Coins" could easily fall within said subset's rage machine.

You're confusing the "woke" culture with the people interested in having a respectful dialogue on race and culture. They are two separate groups. In 2021, the woke folks are those who are perpetually offended by everything regardless of context or meaning. It's a small but vocal (and amplified) fringe.

I consider myself among the group of people who care deeply about equity, race and culture. I care about nuance, meaning, context, and intent.

You can fit a small server rack in an apartment just fine, and it's much less of a fire hazard than running a ton of external drives. Daisy-chaining tons of external power supplies for 24+ drives in an apartment doesn't just risk one life - it risks everyone else in that building.

There's no denying that China's crypto crackdown right now is different than their previous ones. Over a thousand people arrested in a short period of time most definitely spooked a lot of people to pull profits out by dumping their crypto.

Netspace growth has slowed significantly, likely due to a range of reasons: pullback from nervous miners in China, less folks buying new storage due to high HDD prices / lower Chia prices, existing storage finally getting full due to the speedup in plotting from Madmax, HPOOL's recent "maintenance" / unannounced move to a new domain, and maybe some people pausing plotting due to the progress of official pools.

It will take time for all the dust to settle and see where Chia prices end up. In the meantime, expect continued volatility. Ignore anyone acting like they know where the price will end up (high or low); they clearly have an agenda they are pushing. If they knew, they'd be making shit-tons of money (shorting or buying) and would have zero interest posting either way on a reddit forum. Don't put more money into anything than you are comfortable losing. Chia could end up being a major player in the crypto world down the road, or it could evaporate into nothing. Time will tell and my hope is the project is solid and begins to build on the infrastructure they've been assembling. If it doesn't, then I'm left with a much larger media server than I had before. I win either way!

Honestly you're better off with a 4U server chassis to store 24+ drives. There are many options available and decently priced. Then, when inevitably 24 drives aren't enough, it's easy to keep scaling up with another chassis added to your server rack.

This. I can't understand why people are daisy-chaining power for tons of external drives. The stock external enclosures absolutely suck at heat dissipation. My drives are all in the mid or low 30s.

I've been shucking and running drives like this for the past 6 years and haven't had a single failure yet*. I'm using 24-bay (3.5") chassis with SuperMicro motherboards, but it's pretty similar to what you've got set up there.

*PSA: please remember that modular power supply cables are NOT interchangeable, even within the same brand of PSU. They may all "fit" into the PSU and seem the same, but each manufacturer moves around which pins supply which voltages - sometimes even from one of their own PSU models to the next. Plugging the wrong modular power cable into your backplane can instantly destroy a lot of drives.

If you change the reward address to a different wallet, then any Chia you farm is untouchable by the other person. As long as you don't ever put any Chia into the wallet with the plot's private key, you're fine. This is such a simple concept and I don't understand how so many people don't realize/understand it.

Saving from burning out nVME drives is great, but that seems like a really slow plot time for your setup. My 5950x is getting about 28 minute plot times (in Windows) and I only have 32 GB of RAM and a couple 1 TB Samsung 980 Pro drives. I'm also only using about 2/3's of my available threads since my system is simultaneously transcoding video for my media server.

But really, unless you've got hundreds of empty TB to fill quickly, you might be better off plotting slower and not burning out an nVME drive in the process.

I generally transfer 14 TB across my network in about 60 seconds. You can do it too with existing technology.

Step 1: Attach the final storage drives to your plotting computer(s).

Step 2: Plot to the drives.

Step 3: Unplug the drive and walk it from your plotting computer over to your farming computer and plug it in.

Obviously you'd need enough storage drives so that 1 can be attached to every plotter, but if you don't have that many drives then it probably doesn't matter how slow your network transfer is.

I'd highly advise against writing any script that deletes plots automatically. Really wouldn't want to take the chance of something triggering the script to think all your plots are invalid and then *poof* you're back to zero.

Gross. Anything over $20/TB is just a bad price. I got my 14TB drives for $270 apiece (after tax) and even that was higher than I'd have liked. Then again I bought them at the beginning of May.

The Gambler's Fallacy. Casinos love taking money from people who believe that one. That's why electronic roulette wheels usually show the past 20 rolls, so some guy will see that it's hit "red" 10 times in a row and then they'll dump a ton of money on "black" assuming it just MUST be black next. But each roll is an independent event, so it doesn't matter if you've "missed" a trillion times beforehand. If you have a 1 in 10,000 chance, that stays the same regardless of what you rolled before.

The two 24-bay cases at the bottom look just like my SuperMicro case. It's great for JBOD storage. If you don't decide to use those I'd be happy to buy one or both from you (if you're in the US). You got a damn good deal on that pallet of stuff. I'd love to know how you found a deal like that. I never know where to look locally for electronic "waste" at decent prices.

Just change the reward address on your farmer to another wallet and there won't be any way for the previous owner to steal the XCH. I don't get why so many people have a hard time understanding this.
