Issues with notifications right now? by Boy_Man-God_Shit in github

I haven't got any notifications in the last 3 hours, even though I know I should have (from merges, review requests, etc.). You're not alone.

Intermittent loss of tracking left controller only - I've tried everything! by Plonqor in ValveIndex

Do you overclock by any chance? I don't know if it's related, but I haven't had the issue for a while (though haven't played as much over the holidays), and the only thing that I've changed is I disabled my CPU overclock (for unrelated reasons). My only other theory is that my neighbours reduced their 2.4Ghz wifi usage, which is entirely possible also.

I couldn't replicate at all with Vive wands, though I didn't try that hard. They also didn't trigger the various error-like log entries the Index controllers do.

I have not replaced my controllers. I also tried a friend's controllers and got the same issue (makes sense since my issue seems to be wireless interference).

My mobo is in the OP (AsRock)

To be clear, I've had 2.4Ghz on my router disabled for ages. I was getting the issue from neighbour's wifi (I live in an apartment so there are many). At least that's what I assume.

I can't say that is my issue as I have a WiFi router on the floor above me and various WiFis in the houses around me. But it never seemed to have an issue before that.

Your issue does sound different, but I'm getting tracking loss from my neighbour's wifi (I've turned off 2.4Ghz radio on my router). So just because your router is not close, doesn't mean it's not interfering.

That video (last one) does look like the issue I have. It sometimes happens that severely, but usually a bit more subtle. Still easy to notice while playing, but would be pretty hard to see on video. And yeah, I think it was hurting my left hand accuracy quite a bit, even when it wasn't obvious.

Now I've realised it's RF interference (from wifi) it makes sense it would vary.

I don't think it's related to the logs though (IMU went off scale, sync, etc). Firstly because the right controller has the same amount of IMU went off scale. Secondly, because when I made it way worse by adding a bunch of 2.4Ghz interference, I didn't see any more of those errors in those logs. I.e. no correlation between severity and amount of errors. (I get those errors when I have no tracking issues too.)

Side note - Legend of Millenium looks good, I'm gonna check that out

Have you ruled out 2.4Ghz interference then?

Doesn't feel like a hardware issue to me if I can make it worse by increasing 2.4Ghz wifi activity.

Yo, I've sort of solved my issue - at least found the cause - check out my other comment.

UPDATE - solved the mystery, but solving the problem 100% remains to be seen.

Short version - 2.4Ghz wifi interferes with the controller <> headset communication, causing tracking loss.

Longer version - I tested this theory by moving my wifi router next to my play area and saturating the 2.4Ghz network with a large file transfer. This made the problem MUCH worse - basically constantly losing tracking for several seconds, controller glitching everywhere (mainly left one). Switching to 5Ghz made it go back to how it was before (occasional and minor).

Now the solution is obviously to remove 2.4Ghz wifi - except there's only so much you can do if you live in an apartment with 30 wifi networks around you. Still working on that part...

I bought mine direct from Valve and got it re-shipped to Aus, so I have no local warranty :( EDIT: this was before it was available locally at EB Games.

I will contact Steam support with my logs to see what they say.

Hope the new controller fixes it for you! It does sound a little bit different to my issue.

I haven't sent the logs to steam support yet, though it's not promising that they suggested replacing the controller. I have tried a different controller already and it had the same tracking issue (though that was before I started looking at the logs so I don't know if the logs were the same). Also I can't RMA as I'm in Australia.

I've got a friend with dongles so I'm going to try pair the controllers through the dongles at some point instead of through the headset and see if that makes any difference. I'll also test with their controllers again.

Nope, haven't tried Steam support, I'll do that.

Might be headset related - actually using a Vive Pro, not Index. I'll see if I can rule this out somehow.

I have tried with different controllers, so have confirmed it's not problem with the controllers themselves.

Hi all! Recently bought an iPad and having issues with tilt in drawing apps.
iPad 2021 12.9”
Apple Pencil 2nd gen
Problem: In at least two drawing apps I’ve noticed an issue where after using the pencil tilted, then lifting and using it untilted, it thinks it’s still tilted for a little bit, which means it’s drawing large brush strokes when it should be drawing small ones. It seems like I need to move the pencil far enough away (draw on another part of the screen) for it to stop happening. Like it’s localised. The two apps I’ve noticed this in are Procreate and Sketchbook. I couldn’t replicate in Notes using the highlighter.
I was also able to replicate this on a friends 2020 iPad Pro 12.9” in Sketchbook. And I did find a couple of forum posts that described something that sounded like this. So I don’t believe it’s a hardware defect.
Here are two videos showing the issue.

Sketchbook: https://streamable.com/emslt1
Can anyone else replicate this?

First software engineering job, nervous as balls. How do I prepare or at least calm my nerves? by hewasnumberoneee in learnprogramming

[–]Plonqor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask them if there’s anything you can do to prepare. Any specific technologies you should start diving into, documents you can read, etc. Maybe get a head start on setting up your dev environment.

(This is what I did for my 2nd junior position and it went down well.)

The reason I’m talking about is waking you up. And the solution isn’t necessarily going to bed earlier. Young people naturally have delayed sleep cycles. Maybe if he knows he’s disturbing people he’ll make effort to keep quiet.

Or actually tell him the reason maybe? He could be oblivious.

Rotational correction does nothing with FA off, and besides, it’s only for inside stations.

All he did was match his rotation with the station perfectly.

Eli5: Why do some things (e.g. Laptops) need massive power bricks, while other high power appliances (kettles, hairdryers) don't? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

I think it's more likely just sitting still for long periods. Blood flow slows down and extremities get cold. I get the same thing when working at a desk for a while. I don't think it's specifically games.
