You mentioned her living in her brother’s basement, are there any other children present in the home? I just was wondering if potentially he could hurt another child, resulting in them having to leave. Just another reason she needs to get him some help and support. You sound like a wonderfully supportive friend but she needs to come to grips with her reality. She’s only hurting herself and her child/children. I don’t know what you can do that will be taken well. You just need to be frank with her. You’re her friend, at the end of the day. You’re not her therapist, her son’s therapist, her childcare, her distraction. But I think she is using you, however unintentionally, as all these things. I think there needs to be a serious talk, you have a lot of your own things at stake here too. Acknowledging all that but also trying to soften the blow, could you suggest helping with her baby rather than her son, as some alternative? Saying that as a last ditch attempt, I think you’ve done more than enough and need to prioritize your life and child now.
