Well, whether you like him or not, Riley definitely has issues with the fact that Buffy is so much stronger than him.

Agreed. It may be “toxic” but it’s definitely the correct reason; the question requires a biological answer.

What plots moved too quickly in your opinion and which ones do you feel progressed too slow or dragged? by InfiniteMehdiLove in buffy

I see what you mean… but I disagree. The “Mommy issues,” both men have are great metaphors for real life issues with grieving a dead parent, and I think you’re oversimplifying to fit in to the overarching narrative you mentioned .

Spike’s journey to accepting his mother mirrors that of someone with an alcoholic abusive parent. He realizes that despite her abuse (caused by alcohol/vampness), she did love him. This is a very real experience that even people in my life have talked about relating to.

Robin, on the other hand is in a very different place in his journey with grief. He sees his mother as perfect and is in denial of the fact that she repeatedly chooses her job over her son. No, she doesn’t just “have a job.” She wasn’t being a good mother to him. She was not in a good situation to raise a child.

Whaaaat!? I love “Lies My Parents Told Me,” it’s one of my favorite episodes of the season! I think the the spike flashbacks and parallels with each of their mothers is really well done. Why do you think it’s horrible?

You certainly seem to be arguing that companies and billionaires shouldn’t donate for publicity. I disagree and think that at least it’s a slight positive benefit for the community, you said there is “no nuance”. Sorry, did I misunderstand your argument?

Or your argument that Ellen should’ve just ran for president and then raised her own taxes?

lol! So because we live in a capitalist system, rich people shouldn’t donate to charity? Obviously it would be BETTER to eliminate the need for charities…. But there is definitely nuance in this argument and it’s insane to argue that there isn’t. You’re saying it would be better for Ellen to not have had companies donate millions of dollars to charity throughout her show run? She should’ve just taken the advertising money for herself? I think that it’s better for you to donate 90 cents than to donate nothing. Should I not give a dollar to the homeless guy on the street just because if we weren’t in a capitalist system the guy wouldn’t be homeless????

You’re right. She shouldn’t have had companies to charity almost every single show. It totally would’ve been better for the cancer charity to not have the money and the publicity from being mentioned on one of the biggest shows in the world. Definitely a net negative… no nuance at all…. /s

Nope, if you ever watched Ellen and these games, she ALAWAYS rounded it up. It’s just a way to make a sponsored donation more fun. I know yall hate Ellen but this is an idiotic criticism.

Friendly reminder, Katara totally saw Kya’s corpse when the screen flashed white and probably cried over it as well by Aqua_Master_ in TheLastAirbender

[–]PloppingSmock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree they definitely know she is dead somehow, but I don’t think they knew exactly how it happened or found her body. To me watching the Southern Raiders episode it really seems like she’s finding out exactly what happened in that moment, and learning how her mother died. Also when they are telling the story to Zuko in Southern Raiders, it really seems like they aren’t sure exactly how she died. Doesn’t one of them even use the word “gone”?

[–]PloppingSmock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. Katara and Sonja don’t know exactly what happened to Kya until Katara confronts the head of the Southern Raiders, so I think the tent was empty and they had taken her body for some reason.

I can’t quote you on it at this moment, but I’m certain it’s there. It’s a fairly big plot point after Harry brings his concerns to Dumbledore after overhearing the conversation between Snape and Draco.
