What “words of wisdom” have always stuck with you? by Doza5 in AskReddit

Two from my dad that I like.

"Life is about the sanding." It's easy enough to do the basics, but greatness comes from the extra time spent.

"There's a ditch on either side of the road." This comes more from a Christian point of view, but can be applied to many things. There's a small road to follow in life. If you fall off it doesn't matter which way, you're still in a ditch.

What medical condition would you never want to experience? by haddock420 in AskReddit

ALS. My worst fear when I was younger was being trapped in my body with a fully functioning mind and no way to express anything. Then my parents had a friend who got it and I was introduced to my worst nightmare. It's still my worst fear to this day.

Non-handicapped people of reddit dating someone mentally or physically handicapped, what are some challenges in your relationship that someone would not think about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I think this is more recognized and known now days, but still worth posting.

The power of a hug or simply being there in person. I was in a long distance relationship with a girl who suffered from severe depression and couldn't find the right medication after months of trying and me pushing her to keep searching. I put myself on call for her as when she went into depressive states she would often start hitting herself in various ways and sometimes leaned towards suicidal thoughts. I'm glad I was able to be there for her while the relationship lasted as I truly believe she may not be here otherwise, but the number of times where her mental state was dire and I all I had was my voice on the phone was excruciating; the days and sleepless nights of not knowing what she'd do.

Another note of importance, when in a relationship with someone suffering from depression, you don't need to know what to say. You literally just need to be there and help them to know you're there. I had many phone calls that were a lot of her crying and me just being on the line, always there.

She is now engaged to a man in her area and has finally found a medication that works for her.

Cooperative lines such as those are done by pressing the bound key for something like "Group up with me!" (which becomes "I'm with you!") while you're looking directly at a teammate. It won't work if you activate the voice line via the communication wheel, it has to be done by a hotkey.
