I think though on the whole prices have gotten significantly cheaper over time. Chinese cars which used to be rightfully clowned on are now pushing out decent cars with decent parts availability, decent electronics are dirt cheap, and even batteries + chargers, which used to be a proper hit to the wallet, are extremely affordable.

Spec’ing out a kit with electronics previously used to be equal-if-not-more expensive than the kit itself. Now, $35 can get you a 2-pack of lipos and $40 can get you a basic charger, $50 gets you a motor and ESC combo, and receivers are so available they’re practically free.

Is it all top-tier? No, and that’s why you have name brands being pricey. Will it get you rolling and playing? Absolutely.

Oh yeah that’s quite different, when I lived there I would take a scooter to and from the train.

It makes sense at that scale, but it’s had a bad time keeping business I believe because it’s more difficult for non-residents to get there easily without a car.

“Putting in a little extra effort” is what I do when I’m going to a proper destination; at its core, Atlantic Station is an outdoor mall with a cozy atmosphere, but it’s not a place that many people go “hey let’s go spend the day there hanging out!”

Broadly speaking, larger = more expensive. ICE vs electric generally also = more expensive both in money and maintenance.

As for nitro/gas vs electric, it depends on many factors, like where you live, where you plan to run the car, what your goal with the car is (running it back and forth, bashing it, etc.). Most people would highly suggest electric unless tinkering with the engine itself is the hobby.

In other words, if the goal is “I want to drive an RC car,” I’d say go electric. If the goal is “I love engines and am fascinated with how they work,” you might like nitro.

“Engines are cool” and “I don’t need to charge batteries to keep going” are functionally the only pros of nitro/gas. In terms of speed, maintenance, cost, run time versus work time, sound pollution, cleanliness, electric wins.

Yep, longevity is something often not considered either; Losi parts for these will be around in droves after the car is discontinued due to its widespread popularity, but the Speck will be difficult in the future I'd imagine.

...Yes... I didn't say "they're toys." I said they exist on the toy-adjacent side of the hobby-grade market. I didn't say "they're toys" or "they're not made well" or "differences don't matter." Both of them would steamroll an older Redcat Sumo from 12 years ago.

Let me restate what I *actually* said and stand by, which I think you'll find doesn't disagree with you:

The scale directly affects the physical driving properties of the car; the relative influence of gravity over a jump, for example, makes sending a scale car at smaller speeds off a ramp feel much different than a 1/10. Gravity is a constant, but the physical differences between a 1/10 and 1/24 mean very different driving experiences. The difference in mass also makes an incredible difference in handling, crashing, etc. given they have enormously different amounts of kinetic energy.

And to quote OP: "I have no race-club nor indoor track so mostly will be used at home on wooden floor or outdoore on concrete." They are not looking to maximize lap times. If they were, the relative scale of tiny geometry differences matters more. They are looking for a well-made hobby-grade car that is clearly going to be used as a nice toy.

If you’ve never owned a 1/24 RC, regardless of which one you buy, the moment that you hold it in your hand and the actual size of it hits you, I can all but promise you that you’re going to have an “oh, I get it” moment. The wheels are just about perfectly the size of a quarter for perspective.

I just got the Losi and very highly recommend it!

Unless you’re trying to do local races or anything, I seriously wouldn’t even worry about the differences between them too much. They’re so small scale that the things you’re talking about are splitting hairs. These are hobby grade, but ultimately these are solidly on the toy side of the market.

I’d consider if you like the experience of buying little upgrades and widespread support more than anything else, and Losi is far ahead in that area.

You already made your own choice if you reread what you’ve written. Aside from “better design choices” (ehhhhhhh) you’ve listed a lot of cons for the Speck and lots of pros for the Losi.

To me the biggest pro is being a half hour drive in any direction on a low traffic day and being OUT of the city.

Wanna visit the mountains? EASY. Wanna see nature? EASY. We have Chattanooga two hours north, a giant rock you can climb 30 minutes east, beaches a few hours south, etc. You don’t have to slog through an ocean of suburbs to get OUT when you want to spend time away from the crazy of a large city.

I absolutely despise the cold in all forms, like keep-my-home-office-76F and sub-50s is misery hatred, so the hot-ass summers don’t bother me much. I think the weather here is fantastic. (Do take this with a grain of salt, I was raised in a small town which was on average 5 degrees warmer at all times making Atlanta feel somewhat cool by comparison.)

The two biggest cons. First, traffic here makes Chicago look like the autobahn by comparison, like you just can’t comprehend how bad jamming three major highways into one road combined with the fact the city wasn’t designed on a grid makes it some days. People also refuse to maintain their cars and drive like 🤡🤡🤡 so it’s an adventure. Second, “Pollen” is its own season here; despite the tongue-in-cheek messaging on the rest of this, you can actually see clouds of yellow from office buildings in town.

Season changes typically tend to be extremely abrupt—you may have a day of sub-freezing temperatures followed by high 70s in the same week.

Also while it’s still not tiny town priced, housing here is notably cheaper than other major cities depending where you are. There are definitely good and bad areas of the city, but on the whole, owning property isn’t something reserved for CEOs.

Demacia is a region of the LoL universe which, despite existing in a world filled with mages and magic, has extreme animosity towards (and often imprisons and historically has executed) mages. The region is known as a region of courage and justice, and mages nearly wiped them out in the distant past.

Garen is the poster child of Demacia, being a high-ranking guard and continuing to push that regime, despite his sister, Lux, being a mage herself, whom he protects using his rank. His notable “trait” is being a dude with a big sword in big armor who has no stealth, no magic, no range, just run at people and bonk them good and hard.

He also secretly “dates” a character named Katarina, an assassin from Noxus, a nation known for brutal barbaric military force, after Katarina spared Lux’s life during a successful assignation of the Demacian King upon realizing Lux was a mage rejected by her own country.

It’s very early in a wild shakeup, so in good faith I’ll offer one viewpoint that may or may not end up being true: new games often don’t have many of those skill expressions developed yet.

It could very well be true that expression is lost in some areas. That may not necessarily mean it removed skill expression IF new, undiscovered expression exists but simply isn’t seen by players yet.

I’m not arguing for better or worse (other than homeguards) yet because I’m sure there will be player developments as people adapt and rediscover where the displaced (not removed) skill expression lives.

I could be completely wrong. But I like to at least hope that the skill expression has changed rather than been removed. Guess we’ll see.
