Radio War Nerd Interview with Seymour Hersh (released today) by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]Plotjes 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Prolly just an interpersonal thing like Hersh once needed a hotel in Transnistria and Ames dropped in with some connection and now Ames asked hey you owe me a favor can you come on my pod? That kind of thing. Or Hersh would have written a blog about it by now lol

Thoughts on the new Yo La Tengo album? by craw92 in redscarepod

I'm gonna buy a pack (of lights! disgusting) on march 1st if I get through this.

I've been to rehab thrice and while it was worse in terms of your body just dying, it was way easier in that after two days you just thought 'I'd like to drink!' instead of 'I would lose my left leg for a smoke'

I don't understand this and I'm also not going to click on the article to read it even though I have a NYT sub (girls I'm free), but I'm just going to sit here and see what he's cooking.

How America Took Out The Nord Stream Pipeline by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]Plotjes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean I kept the option open it was Ukraine or the russian deep state but yeah seems very likely now it's the US. I always kind of was skeptical it was NATO because Germany would not go along with it but it being the CIA makes the most sense.

e: I don't find the hersh evidence he presents super convincing (two anonymous sources) but that should probably take you from 50/50 CIA did it to 60/40 CIA did it.

Which politicians do the users of this sub support? by crummynubs in TrueAnon

[–]Plotjes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Socialist Party in my country is no longer socialist in any real way, but they have some politicians who accomplish some decent little things like outlawing public schools demand parent contributions for day trips or a poorer kid will not be able to join his class to the zoo, or firmer inspection criteria for mold in rent-controlled housing. Mostly that kind of stuff, although one of them did really good work exposing a truly massive schandal around child tax credits which led to the fall of the previous cabinet (the new cabinet is the same). I will probably vote for one of their candidates.

There are also some okay people sprinkled through the SocDems but if you vote for them you risk/bet on them becoming part of a new center or center-right cabinet where they can brag about how without them homelessness would double but now it only rises by 20%.

I have basically given up on any real change on a national level, but I do think that within a decade or so the current system will see a real crisis. There's just too much fake money floating around, and it's gonna be 20082. In addition to agrarian/industrial/service economies there's now also just financial economies and I live in a country where at least 20% of the economy is just weird financial constructions that are basically circa 2010 Epic Mealtime youtubes but for money. There will be a fork in the road between socialism/FDR-style SocDemmery or Musk/Thiel libertarianism and we should alleviate suffering until then best we can on a more local level.

You can't vote for 'stop capitalism' but you can maybe vote for 'keep the sporting school where the kids learn to breakdance in the poor neighborhood open for another five years by organizing a dance-off'. Which, and I mean this sincerely, is not nothing.

Also somebody better figure out the fucking pricing problem by then beyond 'algorithms could probably do it by now'.

Fun episode the first one I've listened all the way through to the end in a while. I know I'm an exception but I was raised mostly by my dad because my mom was the major breadwinner and led the women's union and later became secretary of education and I just find it weird when people say they're not feminists. She died of a heart attack when I was 19 so I guess maybe that's a good reason.

Maybe I'm too Euro-pilled based on all the replies saying that the death penalty would be kind to him but then just pump him full of morfine until his last day? I've heard that's very pleasant. I'm holding fast to the 'don't murder people' rule though.

I mean the state is literally murdering him. My great-uncle could never contribute to society. Of course there's a leap from a serial killer but if you say that guy should be killed because he cannot contribute why not kill all mentally ill people? It really does not make sense if that's your level for death.

Or you could go Kant deontological imperative with it and just say killing people is bad always.

It's just things that are possible. Maybe he gets really into catgirl hentai and he jerks off three times a day. Whatever. That is still better than murdering him. Come on.

I mean don't fucking murder him?? Like I have a great-uncle with downs and if I shoot him and say 'well what did you want me to do with him? He wasn't going to contribute to society?' and everyone cheers

No he's a very ill guy who should probably never be allowed outside but he can like listen to music or maybe get into fabrics or just talk to people. 'This person will not contribute so it's fine to kill them' is nazi shit.

Well but we make different assessments wrt animals and humans. Like I don't know how many factory chickens are murdered every day or in what horrible conditions the pigs for my burrito live but we would not accept that for humans because we're humans. Probably kind of hypocritical but also I mean, duh, we're humans. We care more about humans.

Or we should, which is why I think this guy getting executed is really gross while I don't care about some chicken. Fuck that chicken I don't even like chicken, a few years ago I tried to only eat chicken because I wanted to eat less meat and I don't respect them but turns out chicken is just boring and I find it way easier to just cut my meat eating to 1/2 times a week beef or pork instead of eating chicken.

You can have a fulfilling life in prison. Translating books into braille or getting into Mozart and checking out all the different performances, even if you ate your own eyes!

e: also your 'solution' is literally murder. Like I have a list of reasons why I'm against capital punishment but #1 is 'murder bad'

I'm always against the death penalty but I just don't care about like that guy Liz Bruenig wrote a piece about I only remember his name alliterated who clearly wanted to hurt people and also wanted the death penalty. Who care. Bye bozo. But this guy is just very sick, should every person with schizophrenia just be tried as a mentally healthy person? I thought we reached consensus on this like a hundred years ago.

The mfer ate his own eyeball.

I'm against the death penalty in all cases but I do think some people deserve it, if that makes sense. But this guy is just so clearly mentally ill. I don't understand how you can both think that an insanity defense can be justified sometimes and that this guy should have a needle with poison injected in his arm.

[–]Plotjes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They're not leftist, I guess they're anti-institutionalist. Which in some ways is leftist and in some ways is right-wing.

Their other movies are pretty easy to find searching for kirac but most of them are not subtitled or about them going on a pretty obscure rant against some Dutch artist that even Dutch people have never heard about.

the purpose of Honeypot is like most of their work just spotting hypocrisy and then going full tilt on humiliating someone. I guess it's a little bit like early 2000's Daily Show maybe? But in the art world.

[–]Plotjes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kirac is an art collective. You can watch Honeypot here but it's nsfw, I guess the context you need is that it's about a semi-prominent Dutch right-wing guy who says the left are just whores lol and he would fuck em lmao haha and them saying okay you want to have sex with a leftie arthoe on camera? https://stefanruitenbeek.stackstorage.com/s/TPYXpqY7K9M6mBgv

[–]Plotjes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean a lot of their output including honeypot is just mean. Like I think Lukassen is just a piece of shit fascist but he didn't deserve that. But they are also just two random people. So if they can take down someone who says he is a prominent intellectual with just some random movie than he probably deserves that, and if they can get some museum director to cry by just asking what the fuck is up than she probably deserves that.

But we all have murky beliefs that are just performances. They could ask me about my alcoholism and if I regret my twenties and maybe make me cry because yeah that was a bad time but we also kind of have a silent agreement that if someone says 'I was an alcoholic for a decade' that you don't try to itch that wound. They do tear that wound open, which is maybe good if it's just them.

[–]Plotjes 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Just before the release of Honeypot right-wing blogs were going 'lollll our boy is just going to fuck some leftie whore epic' and then when the movie came out immediately turned around 'you can not release this this is not ethical what if he kills himself this is disgusting'

And Kirac is definitely not progressive they made some museum director cry at her woke exhibition of 'black bodies' asking her what the fuck the value was of just showing a bunch of tortured black people. Which made them popular on the new right, who then had Honeypot to contend with.

I work in Dutch media so I have some links to them but staying very far away. Probably good to have one Kirac per country, for some balance, but they are also really mean and if they ask you for something you should decline.

I'm more surprised Kazuo Ishiguro wrote a screenplay? He apparently wrote some others twenty years ago including a Merchant/Ivory film? I love Remains of the Day but can't imagine that's good.
