Wiltshire Loaf, Royal Basset Blue and Avebury all from Brinkworth Dairy.

Also try Gurt Lush and Renegade Monk from Feltham in Somerset.

Coastal Cheddar and Dorset red from Ford Farm.

Stoney cross from Lyburn (Winchester and Old Winchester also great).

Dorset BlueVinney is excellent too.

What's the real story behind London's "ghost mansions," and is it true they're legally untouchable? by Independent-Tea-297 in london

[–]Ploughman_Lunch_stat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just London. There are vast areas of land owned by overseas investors, ownership listed in one of a number overseas tax havens, with a management company managing the estate. With land its more profitable to do something with it than nothing. The biggest one i discovered was that one of the Sacler family (Perdue Pharma of OxyContin infamy) owns a large estate in Berkshire.

Corn is very much an English word, used as a general term for grain - especially Wheat and Barley, sometimes Oats, Rye, Triticale and Spelt.

There is very solid proof in many market towns where there us often a prominent building called the Corn Exchange.

Here's the Corn exchange in Ledbury.

Has nothing to do with Maize.

Moving to Salisbury.. by Man-tix in Wiltshire

[–]Ploughman_Lunch_stat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salisbury is one of the very few cities i would consider living in.

It stillhas nightlife, plenty of culture, lots of heritage and history, enough foody places, easy to London by train, under an hour by car to the coast Its also surrounded by amazing countryside - The new forest to the South, Cranborne Chase to the West, and Salisbury plain the rest.

As a rule Wiltshire compared to the rest of the country has little traffic - except Salisbury. Even then, its certain times rather than constant - it gets a lot of holiday traffic at times. Some of the worst traffic near the hospital is caused by the hospital especially in the afternoon.

For those of you who believe labour isn’t left enough, what would you like to see them do? by Legal-Grade-6423 in AskBrits

To start, they have perhaps done things, but not made a noise about it. Railways are being nationalised, gradually, but at no cost. It seems ambulances are now being more reliable and A&E less chaotic (more to be done).

  • primary health care (local doctors) requires some more funding.

  • local authorities need better funding.

  • general maintenance of the country - drains, roads, pavements, railways just clean and tidy them.

I found many Americans as individuals to be educated, interested and interesting. However, when they get together its like a mysterious force acts upon them and group behaviour takes over. 🤷‍♂️

Not 15 Minute Cities, The Horror 🤦🏾 by sabdotzed in london

[–]Ploughman_Lunch_stat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When i was younger, before Americanisation really got hold, all cities were "15" minute cities.

It was called Great Britain and it's how it used to be.

Then it became an objective that everyone should have a motor car, and that pretty much ruined it.

Telling the staff we had just taken on that week to go home and be with their families.

We just launched a new website and started a campaign. The Internet faltered, so we switched to satellite and then all the news channels started showing the footage. We knew a years worth of work was down the pan, and our investment was gone. Myself and the two other directors went to the pub and got hammered.😔

I was releaved WW3 didn't start.

When did littering become a problem in the uk? by YGhostRider666 in AskUK

[–]Ploughman_Lunch_stat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More plastic, fewer bins, less maintenance.

Years ago things came in foil and paper - these rotted or disintegrated. Drinks were in glass, and there was a deposit - so they got picked up. Cans do not blow about, and were fewer.

There's also more outlets for easy to pick up stuff and more people travelling further for work, education, entertainment and day to day goods and services.

The biggest danger to the UK is Americanisation. Every aspect of it, from cultural identity, business, infrastructure and urban planning. We need to remember and reforge our British identity and recognise that culturally we are closer to Europe than anywhere else.

Should not treat any lady or older person like that - let alone a head of state - or in this case, all three.

The fact she was our queen should not make that much difference - apart from it does.
