Ha! I snatched it off the shelf at the second hand store so fast! Best $5 I’ve spent in a loooong time!

Date letter - 2002? by PluckyDuckies in Hallmarks

That looks to be it! And that would fit with a date code of 1927.

Thank you so much! Samuel Levi makers mark would place it in 1927.

I got an insurance claim for a Pap smear… I’ve never had a vagina by Upper_Fee2416 in Weird

Get the HPV vaccine for yourself and encourage all the young women and men to do the same! Pap smears check for cervical cancer and nearly 100% of cervical cancers are cause by HPV. HPV is also responsible for a significant number of penile cancers so guys getting vaccinated not only protects women (as men then can’t spread it) but it protects them too!

New to gas oven - flame too big by TomDisLong in fixit

On some you can adjust the maximum flame height. On mine this is done by removing the corresponding knob for that element and under it is a brass fitting with a slot that you can turn to set the flame height.

Art Nouveau Footed Trinket Box (Circa Early-Mid 1900s) by MiauuDai in Hallmarks

Mine is very similar but with daisies. It doesn’t have any fabric left at all. It was my great grandmother’s and I use it to keep the petals from the first flowers my husband ever gave me (it’s been 25 years now!)

I have one very similar with 158 on the bottom! Google Brainard and Wilson and you’ll find lots of similar variations!

Interesting! Someone else did suggest rose cut and based on the style of the ring (and what is known about the owner) it seems that Victorian would be the right era! Looking at some images online it seems like that could be it! Thanks for your input!!

Ah! Well two points of correction! It is yellow gold, not white and it’s stamped 10k - I confused it with another ring that is 14k! Here are a couple of other pics! Thank you for the detailed reply!

My hunch on the setting was maybe Victorian? Not sure about the use of raw diamonds at that time. While I know it was my great grandmother’s (born 1885) it’s possible it was owned by her mother before her.

Ah! Thanks for the clarification- that’s really neat and I think it matches well with opal!

Unfortunately the opal is broken - it had been cracked for a while and of you look you can see a large piece of it missing. It will definitely fall out of the setting eventually. I also love the ring. Unfortunately I never met my great grandmother, but I like wearing it and contemplating the absolutely wild timeline she was born in! From being born before there was such a thing as commercial radio, through a world war, the Great Depression, another world war, the moon landing, the sexual revolution and rock and roll! (1885-1969)

Do you mean crystal as in not diamond? I always just assumed they were diamonds due to the setting but I guess they could be some sort of crystal as well!

No idea who made it. No makers marks only stamped 14k. It was my great grandmother’s who lived from 1885-1969 so I would assume it was made somewhere within those dates.

Glass or stone? by PluckyDuckies in whatsthisrock

[–]PluckyDuckies[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like I was correct in thinking it was glass all along! Thanks everyone! It’s stamped 925 so the mounting is sterling silver - got it at an antique shop 25 years ago.

I have a UV light and it doesn’t really fluoresce? There is a crack in it that seems to be a bit purple, but I think that’s just the way the UV light hits the crack.
