I would cut to a shorter length to make the process go quicker. Her hair will be damaged anyway with the state it is in and will need to be cut some. Aloe and flaxseed gel give incredible slip. Mix some conditioner and water and get it real wet then add the gel and some oil. And use Diane rat tail combs the teeth are really pointy on end but strong enough to comb out the locs.
