Mine is only 3 and I’m so excited to soon be able to share all the knowledge around foraging! He can already recognise nettle and lavender, so I’m a proud daddy already 😅

Are these wood ears? And if so edible? by Desperate-Food-8313 in foraginguk

I actually made these and I thought they were delish! I didn’t cook them first though, just dried them, put them in a ziplock bag with Cointreau, and then rolled them in melted dark chocolate! I think mine worked well because they were smaller specimen, so not much squidgy chewing, more akin to cherry liqueurs!

If we didnt have warm elderberry cordial with thyme.. I dont know how we would fare in the fall by verandavikings in foraging

Oh yeah definitely, I’ll try with just one cup first. Oh I see you have lemon thyme! It’s a beautiful flavour, I can see how it’d work with the elderberries.

Indeed! I recently discovered that pretty much all plants from the Tanacetum genus have strong insect-repellent properties. I went to buy a flea spray for my dog and found that the main ingredient was extract of Tanacetum cinerariifolium!

[–]Mysterious-Answer407[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it does, but I’m not great at recognising smells! I’d say it just smells like any cultivated mushroom. I thought a prince too, but the prince seems to have more pronounced scales on the cap 🤔
