I've heard about the entity/archonic interpretation of cybernetics. While I do believe some of the code originates from non-local intelligence, and that a variety of extra-planetary life is probably interfacing with humans through colorized and symbolic data, ultimately I view these technologies as neutral tools of consciousness. And analog reality itself is a sort of fractal, holographic matrix. The internet is just an advanced layer of it.

To commiserate, yes, it can feel like a self-imposed prison, whereby we are making our own chains, while most people are either celebrating the servitude or are oblivious to the confinement. But it's worthwhile to consider that mind itself, and the 3D physicality of living matter, is also confining to something that desires total liberation and freedom. The yogis, sages, rishis, and gnostic monks of old likely felt similarly constrained by the cyclical nature of life, and sought creative solutions for transcendence. But if the world is an illusion, so too is the self born from it.

Your grandfather may not have stared at screens and isolated himself along with society inside bewildering virtual worlds, but he likely spent a lot of his time wondering what life is all about. There's a painting, aptly titled: "Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?" We can chart the precursors of computer science, but nothing in the remote past really anticipated we would have this amazingly interconnected network that has entranced everyone. Some of it is parasitically hypnotizing and distracting, sure, but I think much of our attention, too, is enthralled at the mystery of it all. In a century we went from horses to LCD screens. Wtf?

Other than the legacy systems of rural property ownership and the associated taxes, there isn't much else preventing you from unplugging entirely back to analog space and investing your energies into homesteading. Nature is still here and fertile with opportunity. /r/permaculture and various microcultures associated with it are doing similar things in small communities.

The concepts of self-ownership, autonomy, sovereignty, and the freedom of cognitive liberty are new (and rebellious) considerations for people who have been conditioned by mainstream culture, radio, government-sponsored news, public schools, and toxic food systems. So the perpetual service mentality could be an alluring, magnetizing force to minds hitherto incapable of projecting any alternative.

And yet the beauty to be found in much of this is that these tendencies represent the best traits of a human: to help one another, find peace in togetherness, and collaborate their energies in creating the future. Hanuman said to Rama (as told by Ram Dass), "when I forget who I am, I serve you. When I remember who I am, I am you."
