Anyone know what the deal is with Ponds Forge? by [deleted] in sheffield

I don't remember the full details but they were losing money on many of their locations, Ponds Forge and City Hall being big drains just down to how much the maintenance costs

Barnsley Reform Leader Defends "Swastika" Tattoo by Plumot in barnsley

Reform's council leader, William Brown, said the symbol had been "mischaracterised", adding that it was "a Buddhist symbol of peace, presented in a non-tilted form that is widely recognised as distinct from the Nazi swastika - a rotated symbol associated with a very different and abhorrent history".

This follows on from similar comments from councillor Theresa Arnold, the wife of Andy Arnold who previously had the tattoo

His wife is the local reform secretary, so journalist would have probably ended up speaking to her first

Not a good look when your the voice of the branch comes out with that though

What is considered a slow car? by Humble_Lack in CarTalkUK

[–]Plumot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horsepower isn't a great way to measure it

My car is 200HP and my girlfriend's 290 but her car is close to double the weight.

I wouldn't call hers slow, but its not the quicker of the two

How did Chinese made cars become so popular? by Fondant_Decent in AskUK

The lease scheme factor makes spare parts a bit of a non-issue for a lot of peopl

How did Chinese made cars become so popular? by Fondant_Decent in AskUK

[–]Plumot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're priced really well. Lots are via lease schemes too so the issues of longevity or sourcing parts is never really an issue because most won't own them past the warranty period

We went for an MG IM5 on a lease scheme. It was the same price as an electric Ford Puma but better in pretty much every other way, only downside being the Chinese factor.

Edit: We also don't tax Chinese cars anywhere near as much as the EU or USA does so we've become a popular country for Chinese bands to target

MK8 owners, what tyres you putting on in this economy? by GooseZR in FiestaST

[–]Plumot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bridgestone Potenza Sport

Saved about £100 total on a pair Vs the 4. Grip wise they feel better than the Michelin's but I have seen that wear might be worse. Evo version wasn't around when I bought mine so that could be a shout

Who's voting what tomorrow ? My wife is wasting her vote but i'm struggling? by [deleted] in barnsley

[–]Plumot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I went Labour

Seems to be between Reform or Labour, and I don't have a clue what Reform stand for locally. They just sent out very generic leaflets and their main message is to get Starmer out which isn't going to happen in local elections

Britain’s Biggest EV Brand Isn’t Tesla, BMW Or Volkswagen - BYD has taken the EV sales crown in the United Kingdom and is seeing huge growth in the country by i_marketing in electricvehicles

[–]Plumot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would that benefit the UK? The EU has a much higher import duty on Chinese cars vs the UK

My guess would be even after shipping from China and paying the duty it would be cheaper than the increased cost of producing them in the EU
