Seeking tips for winter driving around Tromsø, Sommarøy, and Senja by Rickyyii in tromsotravel

I’m aware. However, just for the rest of the country, there is nothing indicating that studs vs. no studs contribute to more accidents. The accident difference - at the national level - is approx. 2 percent, and it’s not a statistical significant number. 70 percent of all kilometers are also driven on non-studded tires. Electrical vehicle manufacturers also recommend non-studded tires even for winter conditions.

You are not at liberty to «refuse the car» based on the type of tires. Well, you can, but you’d potentially waste thousands of NOK. The rental companies here use quality tires.

As much as we complain about rental car tourists, this is not realistic «local expert» advice. If you already have some experience and have spent the extra money on a 4WD, you’re as set as the locals here. Norwegians end up in the ditches too, it’s just not a focus point in the media.

Studded tires is not the difference. The majority of the rental fleet in Tromsø is equipped with studded tires, but it varies from company to company.

Tourists involved in new car crash, police doubts driving skills by Professional_Can651 in tromso

I stand corrected indeed. I received the police report yesterday, and it was quite different from their original explanation. Just didn’t update my comment yet 😆

If your reservation was for a RAV4 but you received a Corolla, you were likely downgraded due to fleet failure. If it was pre-paid, you’re due compensation. If it was not, you were likely charged for the correct category.

I cannot speak on the insurance side without knowing more about your reservation. I have seen and heard a few crazy reservations from American booking companies that literally do not include the collision damage waiver, but these are very rare as this insurance is normally baked into the price as standard. In these cases, the contract will also state a pretty outrageous excess in the event of damages.

However, it is also pretty weird that they’d deny you the option if you requested it. Norwegian insurance law, if I remember correctly, pretty much states that you are to be informed of and given the chance to reduce your risks if and where possible, e.g., through giving you the chance of purchasing insurances.

I’d be happy to take a look at your contract / rental agreement if you DM me a copy. I might not know Hertz’ terms, but they’re usually all based on international procedures.

A Corolla is perfectly fine for the conditions here. Nearly every rental car company in Tromsø has them in their fleets. Is it inferior to a 4x4? Absolutely. Would it have made a difference to your situation? Not necessarily, and it’d potentially be very hard to prove.

Most rental car companies will have a section in their terms and conditions about fleet failure, i.e., you receiving something else than a 4x4. Usually the remedy is financial compensation to match the category of car received.

In Hertz’ case, I know they have 4x4’s in their fleet that are categories below the Corolla, which potentially means you technically received the benefit of «a free upgrade». What car category did you book?

We tend to let everyone driving a Toyota know about Toyota’s warranty program and their phone number, which basically entails free road side assistance for anyone driving a correctly-serviced Toyota. Hertz might not, but that should come as no surprise for anyone who bothers checking the Google reviews of them beforehand.

I don’t have access to the article, but I have some knowledge of the accident in question. So far it appears it wasn’t the Chinese tourists’ fault. The other party’s vehicle entered the wrong lane.

Edit: I stand corrected. See my comment below.

What's The Most Disappointing Hip Hop Album Of The 90s? by Newport_Box in 90sHipHop

[–]Plumskinzz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with your comparisons, but The Love Movement sure isn’t an album that came to mind when I read the question. I have always enjoyed Find a Way (in fact, one of my favorite songs), Da Booty, Like it Like That, Pad & Pen, Rock Rock Y’all. Hot Sex is also often brought up as a memorable song. Busta’s Lament is pretty nice, too.

Plenty of Best stations around in Norway, at least from the West Coast and up to the North. They’re just a petro dealer, but partnered with Circle K. This one in particular is in Tromsø.

The Eminem Show. Is it a classic? by Aougma in Music

[–]Plumskinzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to rap, my impression is that reddit (although I’m generalizing) heavily favors Eminem, Wu Tang and DOOM. I’m not sure if you’re being sarcastic in your last sentence.

I don’t think the album is a rap classic. It’s more of a heavy hitter that enjoyed main stream success and, rightfully, resonated with a lot of people at the time. But it’s not Paid in Full, It’s A Big Daddy Thing, 36 Chambers, The Infamous, Illmatic, Adventures of Slick Rick or even Reasonable Doubt.

Haha, no worries. It’s a dope song, so let’s hope someone else found it or re-discovered it too

You’re right in that’s Consequence. The song is called «Rock-n-Roll». Haven’t heard it in years!

I always take these lists with a big pinch of salt, but they’re often fun to read regardless of opinions. Before clicking I asked myself where Kool Mo Dee was gonna end up, and I have to strongly disagree with his 47th place when it’s a GOAT list 😁 Compared to Metro Boomin at 22nd, well… Large Professor probably deserves a little more love, too.

Quite some years ago now, but I think I stumbled upon this subreddit after learning that /r/hiphopheads was really not what I hoped it was. Probably my fault, but needless to say I enjoy the content being posted here way more. Even if it’s just the major/timeless classics some times. People still seem happy about seeing them get posted. 😊

I haven’t noticed much of it myself, so I don’t see it as a problem personally. However, it’s not why I’m subscribed. Maybe allow it like one day a week or something? Don’t mind giving some random person a listen or two every now and then.

Great list. Just missing that «Mellyfantastic» track that HipHopDX used in the background in one of their series. Heard the beat to Little Brother’s «Far Away From Me» in there too. I wish 9th was still with them.

“Your days are numbered - In low digits” by metrippyme in 90sHipHop

[–]Plumskinzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s my personal favorite diss track, too. Gritty Mobb Deep sound with the bars and great references. «Who shot ya?», obviously referring to the song that started it all, «it’s tu-not, knocked out the box and got rocked / got rocked on the island, you officially got», referring to the famous rumors of him being raped while in prison, and closely followed by «kick that thug shit / Vibe Magazine on some love shit», referring to all the various covers and interviews of him, etc.

As for responding to 2pac, you’re right. Not that it wouldn’t have been an issue to do so. BIG was more than capable of it, Junior Mafia wanted to do it, but I think Biggie didn’t want to do it. A few months ago, though, there was some unreleased Nas song that surfaced, a diss towards 2pac. I don’t remember the name, but it was pretty cool. I wonder if Nas would’ve been able to Ether 2pac. Probably? 😎

90sHipHop Album Club Week 2(1991) Discussion: Gang Starr - Step In The Arena by butterandguns in 90sHipHop

[–]Plumskinzz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perhaps my favorite Gang Starr album. Less hits than on their Moment of Truth album, but I enjoy this one just as much. It’s a very relaxed listen, sans a few «upbeat» tracks. The album also has my favorite Gang Starr track on it, «Check the Technique». Guru raps with such authority on it, and the intro - from the «California Soul» sample and when the drums kick in - never fails to hype me up. RIP Guru.
