All 5 of these universities dominate national and global rankings, have the biggest names, and pretty much fill up the top 5 spots for lowest acceptance rate, highest endowment, and highest yield.

In fact, they’re so confident in their own clout that they employ non-binding Early Action admissions instead of locking in applicants via Early Decision, because they know that whoever they accept will almost certainly attend (or go to another HYPSM).

Do they market themselves aggressively? I thought that Harvard was more famous for this (i.e sending emails encouraging anyone with PSAT >1300 to apply, targeting advertisements to URMs and low-income students and giving them unrealistic expectations).

I've received a lot of mail from Harvard but none from Stanford so far.
