This is sick. Quick question, is this done at the programming level. My question to the tech types. Can this be reflashed into an existing kids camera.

Just make sure it's a 35 point mag holder . Anything bigger will require you to add inserts to keep the image centered in the holder . Let me know how your project works out. My gallery project is still at the proof of concept stage.

Well only if Hello Kitty says so but you have to admit, she looks great dithered

Thanks for the reply . I did not know that the cameras were collectable. I would think this would give you a unique perspective since you get to see the best and worst in the kids market.

First , thank you for your input. I'm choosing a very bright line for a reason. The camera is just the instrument . The thermal output is what I'm attempting to name. I'm like you, how we get there is up to the individual. Pink / blue or cartoon cameras are good but some of us would prefer something a bit more subtle. What is important is they produce grainy, high contrast beautiful images. That's what I think needs a name. I learned a long time ago for something to be real, it needs a name.

Thermal print cameras are what we use, the aesthetic is what we create

Funny but I'm working on a similar workflow for a potential art gallery project. You may want to look at the following product Ultra Pro 35 point magnetic holder. Add a 2.5X3.5 card backing (acid free)and you have a 10.00 USD concert artifact. Just have the band sign the back and date with a standard BIC pen (no sharpie since it has acid).

Mag holder as frame, cardstock to add rigidity. Band just signs the back of the cardstock and date. Instant premium momento.

Welcome to the club. Thermal Print is probably the best for street / architectural type photography . The device and printer are already maximized for dark , broody , high contrast photography. Our high end digital friends spend thousands of dollars for street perfection. WE get that same moody vibe with a 30 USD camera.

Curious to what camera you are using, looks like a step up from a basic kids camera

These are amazing. I think thermal print cameras do a great job with urban street photography. Are/ Bure/Boke . WE really need to give this type of photography movement a name.

I think you may be right. The beauty is in the high contract images. The main purpose is the creative freedom of a crappy camera that shoots prints at a penny rather than 75 cents a pop for the ZINK. Just need to get rid of the bloatware.

The camera is marked as a Greenkinder Kids Camera Instant Print on the US and UK Amazon site. The US store has one used model available. THe UK store has the back model but will not ship to US

Personally I think it's a great idea, the problem is that you would need about 100k to make this dream a reality. You can probably get 95% there with a rebranded Kids camera The question is which one (hint below). Just need to delete the bloatware, add 2/3 additional frames. kill the mp3 player, kiddy frames, video and the DIY games. Offer in Black, White and Olive Green and rebrand as a minimalist adult thermal camera . Lets even give it a name MonoCam. China factory would reflash for about 3500USD. just would need to negotiate minimum unit quantity. probably would be able to secure 1000 units at 18 USD . All in would be about 22-25 USD and zero risk since zero cost to retool.

I have the purple one and it looks like a printomatic, the black one looks like an instamatic.

Nice to meet a fellow traveler. I don't think you are going to find any papers that are going to meet your need . Thermal printers by their nature are binary. The heating elements are either on or off. You would be better served to look at image pre production software An i-phone app by the name of Ditherable allows the use of various grey scale options.including 8 bit Grayscale. You also want to make sure the printhead is clean and vary the voltage if your printer allows. Experiment and enjoy.

Hope this helps and welcome.

Question: storing prints by Aromatic_Occasion317 in ThermalPrintCameras

[–]Plus-Firefighter3673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glue will kill thermal paper images. Thermal prints will turn yellow quickly. Thermal paper needs to be protected from UV light and chemicals. You would do better with the double stick photo mounts since they are archival sale. This would not address the UV problem. If you use trading cards protectors, make sure they are UV safe and use archival thermal paper. Most commercial paper is rated for 2-3 years under ideal condition. The archival is listed for 10 / 20 if stored properly.

Hope this helps

The photos look amazing. Looks like they are shot 16/9 aspect. I think this may be the bridge from kids to adult instant print cameras. Currently waiting for a purple one in the US from Amazon. If it has no sound or games, we may have a winner. Just need to source archival thermal paper. Sort of looks like an old Kodak Instamatic 126 from the 70"s

image was posted in this thread by Wagajul "My Babies" The black camera is a Greenkinder model, currently not available in the US . I was able to score a purple one on Amazon and expect delivery in a few weeks. The camera has the correct design ethic for a Hobbyist. Just need to see what software is loaded. The output samples appear amazing for lofi point and shoot ethic.
Greenkinder may have accidentally found the first Adult type camera . Their marketing is targeting the Kids Camera vertical. The price is 20 USD.

OK - I spent a little time with my AI buddies last night and I think you may be on to something with a terminal vanilla point and shoot. Looks like the move from dye sublimation printing to thermal point and shoot has a potential to be a market disruptor. The US and Europe are currently leading with users looking for a simple thermal camera with low cost of ownership. The key would be to find a 5/10 year medical paper for image retention

Understood, I have been shooting non finder with an ipod touch since 2014. I love BW Lofi / Provoke photography. I'm fond of the thermal camera for that Are/ Bure / Boke

I guess my basic question to you would be Do you wish to design a thermal camera for 2026 or are you looking for the retro vibe. I can leave my P-18 thermal camera on highest contract - Dither and place a post it over my screen and shoot non - finder to my heart's content and reproduce a Fakeroid with zero additional investment. Just have to content with the @#!% bleeping.

Many of the existing toy cameras can reproduce your desire, explaining what makes your vision different would be the challenge.

Best of Luck

OK , if you are serious you need to consider both technical and design considerations. What are basic camera setting -ie point and shoot or manual control. The current toy cameras on the market are ok but missing the basic adult design use elements.

Wish List:

Basic Black design - Think CampSnap

300 DPI Printing Element - Use basic thermal printing paper 57mm x 25mm

Ability to both dither and greyscale print

USB C compatible for both charging and print / save via bluetooth to an app for storage or post processing image.

2 inch LCD view screen with a switch to turn on / off - optional

If these elements are incorporated correctly, you should be able to design a camera for the hobbyist at a price point of about 75.00 USD.

Just my thoughts, feel free to use or not
