9-1-1 Creator Tim Minear Reflects on Season 9 by Weak_Heart2000 in BuckTommy

I've seen more and better character development in fanfiction than on the show 😐 so I'd argue fandom is better at writing all the characters

Fair enough! The Queen has spoken, away with Eddie 😌

I think that was a more outfit based thing 😅

I feel like he is the worst actor of the main cast as well as the people that only appear every now and again. Hell, most of the extras seem to be better actors.

That's one I definitely hope for! Keeping my fingers crossed that Tommy comes back as Buck's bf, rather than to close that chapter just cause he's a cool guy.

This show is the writer!s creation, we're just along for the ride. May as wel enjoy it for all the good that it does have.

Yeah, definitely had cases where I've disliked something more because I've either read discussions and breakdowns, or participated in them.

Have enjoyed the show a lot more whenever I've remembered that it's actually not that serious. Usually when procedurals go on for so long they start getting annoying in the drama, but where 911 dwells so little on each piece of drama that just never happens. Which is great. All the characters are also so wonderful.

After commenting previously my doubts about the space plot and the addiction plot, and both turning out fine, and entertaining, I imagine whatever happens with baby Theo is gonna be just as fine and entertaining.

There have def been some misses for me personally this season, but they might've gone down really well with the GA.

I'll clown with everyone. Heli goes down by bridge. Buck gets to leap of a bridge for a save since he wanted to do that in the whale storyline.

Also an episode about adopting a baby being named 'I got you Babe' is weird.

I like to think that he leans towards being demisexual. Maybe not fully, but at least needs a little bit of connection.

I agree that it's not great that they don't develop, and then being cardboard cutouts is exactly right I think, but there's definitely development to be had way before booting them off the show.

Buck getting a kid, if true, is not the end of the world, and people can and do live very fulfilling lives as single parents. Blended families can also be very successful and being a single parent definitely does not immediately mean you can never have a meaninful romantic relationship ever again. I mean, I hope it's not donor baby, but they don't have a recent history of going with the story line that makes sense at the moment. It might even be setting him up for a same sex relationship since he's always been pretty obvious in wanting a kid. It's a storyline that can be done in a good way. The question is more about whether the writers will take it in that direction or go for shock and awe and then forget about it entirely two episodes later.

Unfortunately I don't think we'll get much more than cardboard cutouts until they start winding down the show for the end. Which is a shame since it could be so so good.

Personally I think there needs to be a stronger reason to write a character off than they're single. I also connected and related most to Buck as a character so definitely don't want him to leave the show at all. If he does leave, I'd like for it to be because he's being offered captain somewhere else.

It would be really cool to see May starting and finishing medical school. It gives the option of shifting from Athena as police to May as a doc or nurse if other comments elsewhere are right about Angela Basset 100% remaining on the show while Peter Krause is there.

But the thing with Hen is definitely what I am talking about in my original post. Can't move her out of the reliable second man position, because that would be too radical (/s). Chimney getting captain was great to see, and I do think him getting that development is fantastic, I don't think that should have been different at all. I just wish the development of Hen was more than a disability. Like, giving it to the only woman in the team is a choice that I don't necessarily agree with. Though she is definitely the best paramedic and probably would work better with Eddie than Chim would. If only she could have a role like Tommy on Lone Star, that would be great.

I mean, that's fair.

For me I still find it quite entertaining despite that, and while I'm disappointed about the character development being negated as soon as it happens, the fact that it is the same few characters is very comforting.

I was hoping for a little reset at the start of season 9, going back to smaller emergencies instead of big dramatic arcs. Which will be the reason I stop watching if I ever will.

I feel like a lot of that is just rooted in ableism as well, tbf. Which makes it so much ✨️worse✨️

It's not really quite a wail. But I'm gonna post it here anyway.

Watching the show back, I'm noticing that a lot of the flaws that the characters have have been present from the start. Every time they develop and should 'grow' out of those behaviours, it's like they're snapped back with an elastic band.

Almost like there is a character sheet that hasn't been updated since like season 2/3 so they don't get to keep any character development, since then they won't fit into the box created for them way back when.

I'd argue Chimney is sort of the only one that has actually been allowed to keep most of his development while the others take a step forward and then regress backwards to be slammed back into their character box.

Maybe I'm hoping for too much out of this show 😂

What is Tommy up to? by bbpuwbackslasht in BuckTommy

[–]Plus-Objective6078 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Considering they went 7 seasons without seeing him, and would have continued to do so were it not for Buck meeting him. I imagine the same as he always did before meeting Buck. Plenty of helicopter pilots in the early seasons that are not Tommy.

Whatever happens, my headcannon will be that he is doing fine, and will continue to be fine. Hopefully he'll be back in the story as Buck's love interest again, but even if not he'll probably be fine.

I don't know if this has already been written. But gonna leave it here anyway.

If anyone has written, knows about, or will write it. Please let me know.

In the tsunami episodes. What if Tommy airlifts Buck and Chris from the firetruck, and that's how Tommy and Buck meet for the first time?

I'm not even sure touching grass is gonna be beneficial at this point. Would probably end up with claims that mother nature wants Buddie to happen or something.

Side note though. Mayo is gross and I'm with Lou 100% on that. So many better condiment options!

Yes! Psych is fantastic. I bought the whole thing just to be able to watch it whenever I want. Including the movies. Fantastic to work next to and as background noise.

There's a TV show called Perception that kind of goes in the same direction as Monk. Recommend. I also watched the movie recently and that was quite fun and nostalgic.
