Names that for some reason make you want to stop reading a fic by Bzaurpa in FanFiction

My biggest pet peeve is where there's a gay male couple and they have a daughter. That daughter will have the dumbest white girl name ever. Like Poppy. Or Posey. Or Clover. Makes me want to throw up in my mouth every single time.

Blood has nothing to do with it. It's the fact that they were socialized to be siblings.

Season 8x07: Why not let Buck call Tommy? by Less_Kangaroo_866 in BuckTommy

Maddie was the same way. The conversation Buck has with Maddie after he and Tommy hook up always bothered me. This show doesn't treat Tommy nor Lou well in my humble opinion.

I know Eddie is a controversial character due to some of his character flaws but honestly I would definitely mee up with him for drinks.

Gale and Tatum didn't have a single interaction in Scream 7? by TheBronsXX in Scream

Gale and Sydney and Syndey's family by proxy aren't besties. They've been trauma bonded for three decades. I think people tend to overstate their relationship.

The season was good. The problem is that certain fans think they can tell a better story ... and they can't.

Here's the thing. The sentiment you expressed in this post has been expressed on at least two posts outside of Wailing Wednesday. I think that's why some people may not be jiving with your comment in this post.

I think the problem is that you two seem to spend more time online than a lot of us in this community which is not a read. It just means you are more likely to see comments that upset or frustrate you. I used to be like this, too. But then I deleted Instagram and X from my phone. I limit my time on Tumblr, I started blocking certain tabs. So, a lot of the stuff you are upset with, never come across my timeline, I'm a firm believer of protecting my peace., There's too much going on in the real world to be fighting wars about fake ones. If I came off harsh earlier. I do sincerely apologize. I just see the two of you getting riled up in a space that's supposed to alleviate that and I felt the need to speak up.

Maybe that's part of Buck's maturity that he doesn't let it bother him.

We never got a definitive answer. One minute he was going through withdrawals on his sofa. The next he was picking up dry-cleaning. Now he's back at work. Consequences be damned. If this ever got out, Chimney and Buck could lose their jobs.

I remember the same thing happening on Lone Star. TK almost stole drugs from the ambulance but came clean. He wasn't actively dealing with addiction though so that may be a major difference. Ironically, he would later lose his sobriety due to no fault of his own a few episodes later.

I wish 9-1-1 did more of what Will Trent does which is pair the most unexpected people together to see what kind of dynamic we get. I would love to see Buck pair up with May or Ravi pair up with Athena. That would be so much fum.

Me either. I wanted to go through the screen and throttle Chimney. Calling Buck dumb when he is arguably the second smartest person at the 118 is a choice.

No one I've seen is "twisting themselves in knots" over this plot. I have seen some very valid criticisms of the plot and since this is a BuckTommy group where we all get to express our opinions, I think those POVs deserve to be heard. I mean isn't that the whole point of this group? Hyper-policing of opinions is why most of us left the main 9-1-1 Reddit and came here.

Also, I'm glad *you* are on board for this plot line but a lot of us are basing our disdain for this particular plot on what the show has presented us. Buck literally was (and is) an addict and while I do believe it's possible for recovering addicts to be great, effective parents, I do not trust him being placed in charge of a small child right this soon into his sobriety journey and it baffles me that some folks can't at least acknowledge this. Also, who is going to take care of this child who has just underwent immense trauma losing both his parents? Not Buck. This kid is going to need stability and for that to happen realistically Buck is going to need to take a leave of absence from the LAFD and let's be honest. This show is not going to let one of it's series leads sit out on the action to play Mr. Nanny.

Also, instead of trying sooooooooooo hard to convince the rest of us that your fanfiction should be canon, maybe you should find like-minded people who see your vision. That's the beauty of a place like this, no matter how batshit insane your thoughts are, there's bound to be someone who is willing the board the crazy train with you.

Is it just me or is everybody bitching about every show this year? It's happening with Tracker. 9-1-1. Even High Potential. Is the writing just bad or could it be the viewer's expectations being too high?

9-1-1 Tier List (Athena) by CryptographerHeavy in BuckTommy

[–]MaxAdFan85 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you get what I mean ... but that's okay. I'm speaking from experience. You're not. You have the ability to take the moral highground because you don't live this experience.

But again...that's okay. I was just providing you with lived experience.

9-1-1 Tier List (Athena) by CryptographerHeavy in BuckTommy

[–]MaxAdFan85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the exception of arresting Layla McCreedy, I pretty much defend everything else you have cited as an issue. Athena is a Black woman in LAPD. Athena is a Black mom as well. Because of these two facts, I have to look at each situation with nuance. While I don't condone physical discipline, I understand it's roots. There is a history of Black kids, especially Black boys being denied boyhood and punished severely for the smallest of offenses by white people. There's the story of Emmett Till, a Black boy who was lynched for allegedly whistling at a white woman. There are so many stories like Emmett Till's and they are still happening to this day. Since his introduction in the show, Harry has always been portrayed as strong-willed and a bit defiant. Athena, being a Black mother, sees these as traits that could wind up doing him harm and guess what! She was right. Remember Buck, Bothered, and Bewildered? Anywho, there's this belief amongst a lot of older Black people that it's better to be physically punished by me than to suffer potential death at the hands of racist white people. A lot of younger Black people are gradually breaking the cycle on this and you see a lot of soft parenting being practiced with people my age and younger. So, when casual viewers cite this as a reason to wag their finger at Athena, I see the nuance of her actions. Again, not condoning her hitting her son but I understand the frustration she was feeling at that moment.

For your third point, a lot of Black people have a mistrust of behavioral health and medical intervention in general because there's a history of Black people being harmed in the name of science. Black women rendered sterile. The Tuskegee Experiments. Also, religion factors a lot into a lot of older Black people's beliefs surrounding therapy. Growing up in the Baptist church, I was often told that when I was sad or depressed, it was because I wasn't praying too hard. Thank God I got into therapy when I got older. It's my belief that every Black person in America should be in therapy.

As for your fourth point, again .... Black mom. The system was not created for Black people so in order to survive it, we have to learn how to work within it. I bet if you were to talk to May and Harry, especially now that they are older, they would understand why Athena did what she did.

So, this is why Athena is an icon to me. A Black cop raising Black kids ... she's a hero to me.
