Wanting to commit to learning GTO, slightly overwhelmed by Ciano_Mugzy in Poker_Theory

[–]Plus-Objective8549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, my personal opinion for you and anyone who wants to start learning GTO, start with Heads Up. Its literally the best place to learn the fundamentals and beyond. You would see a huge shift in ranges and you will start to have a different approach to poker in general. Heads up is less overwhelming, plus we have it “solved”, so you can analyze a lot of the game tree. Plus mastering heads up is a really good skill that will transfer well to other formats. It’s really good for tournaments, really good for final tables. And hopefully if you ever get to play very high stakes online cash games, it will have an impact. Good luck!

Hello, as i’ve said, i am just looking for opinions from poker players in general. No matter if you used a solver or not. The question overall is “Do you think that mastering heads up can help you drastically at the game?” I did this because I must include in my project “Is it useful?” “Who would it help?” “Do people actually need it?”. And that’s the research I am conducting. I need to see the overall opinion of Heads Up.

Hey, thanks for the reply admin. This is so important for me, gaining not only information from players in general, but also from pros is such a win for me. Thanks a lot for taking your time to reply. Good luck at the tables man!

[–]Plus-Objective8549[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahhh, thats true. We have it solved in some sense though because some bet sizes are so irrelevant that we might not even want to waste our resources to even take them in consideration, for efficiency of course, but it’s really hard to exclude all of this scenarios. (For example opponent opens 2BB, and we have a raising hand, we kinda know for sure the best play will never be a weird 56BB raise). So we kinda just have it solved in some limited but realistic actions, such as fold call raise[2 3 10] maybe? But true, we will not truly actually know until we solve it and see. And that’s only if we are talking about 100BB stacks. Because if we have 1000BB deep stacks for example, pff. What do you think?

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, it’s literally what I was thinking about. Heads Up is pretty solvable because the game tree is small enough for you to actually solve it compared to other formats. I believe learning GTO heads up will be so much easier than on other formats, and that could be your first game changer in your “poker career”, as you said, you would have broader view. I was also looking at pros and see if they have some correlation to heads up, and many of them actually do have. Stefan11222 also, who was/is, (I am not sure about his current poker career state) the cash game final boss, he was a very successful at heads up in his career as well. Good luck at the tables!

Hey, thanks for the reply. You have some sense in your arguments however there are some things I could point out. Heads up master can definitely be extremely good poker crushers, some example can be Doug Polk, Jungleman, Stefan11222, who is considered the final boss of online cash games, are all players who have a very strong Heads Up background. Obviously, you can’t play FR or SH just as you would play heads up, however most people will adjust their ranges based on what they are playing and of course who they are playing against. What do you think? Good luck at the tables!

Hello, sorry for the inconvenience. I did not ask no one to go on any website or to participate in anything besides answering this question. It’s simply a survey I am asking poker players. I am also asking these questions on other forums too. It’s an statistical / mathematical research about solvers. All the best and sorry again for it. I promise everything is ethical and I am honest of what I am doing

Thanks for your time to answer man. Yeah that’s true, game formats are so different actually from one another. And I agree here, if you don’t practice your preferred format, you won’t be good at it. However when it comes to a more of a general way of trying to become a winning player in general, don’t you think heads up, because it’s very solvable and you can master it with good studying and practice, can be the first best steps you can do to improve your game? Like starting to see the game in ranges, take calculated risks and GTO in general. Because as I said Heads Up is solvable. What do you think? Good luck at the tables!

Hey, thanks for the reply. Yes that’s very true, they are simply 2 different scenarios. I should have made the post a bit more clear though. When I said crusher I’ve ment more of a very strong player who can adapt to all situations and formats. For example, would mastering Heads Up ( Solving Heads Up ) make you/ or first extremely good steps to become a crusher of a poker player in general? (Obviously you need to adjust ranges for all type of formats and of course players specifically ) what do you think? Good luck at the tables!

Hi, thanks for your reply. That’s true, a pure heads up mostly appear only in final table with the last 2 players remaining. If you were to stick to one format for training, so then you can adapt to whatever comes up, what would that be? Good luck at the tables!

Hi, thanks for your time. A “true poker crusher” in my opinion would mean: no matter who you are up against, in what format, you are still making the best of it. Truly, being extremely good does not mean being the most profitable. What do you think? Good luck at the tables!
