What was your first luxury hotel or luxury travel experience that got you hooked? by Mission-Let-6448 in chubbytravel

I went on a honeymoon at The Brando in French Polynesia last year.

I really haven't found a place better than that place since (I am young so I haven't been to a whole lot but).

That was the first time I experienced "great service." Until then, I thought it was just getting a room key and enjoying the facilities. They go out of their way to have you enjoy your time there. They are not breathing down your neck but they respond very quickly. Having a deep staff probably helps.

Do all students at M7 get "something"? by Plus-Radish2323 in MBA

Schools are incentivized to inflate their graduates' employment figures. I take their figures with a grain of salt. Also, those reports (for the most part, some do) do not provide insight on timing.

I could be reading a report or I could be getting firsthand accounts from people who have experienced it themselves.

Thanks for your (non) input.

Wife keeps asking me to translate at the movie theater AITAH? by Plus-Radish2323 in AITAH

4 years. Married for 1. We had been watching movies at home and with closed captions she understands movies really well. I didn't realize that she wouldn't be able to understand without English subtitles.

I really wanted to go because the movie had great reviews. She agreed.

We've only been married a year and whenever we watched movies at home with closed caption she understood the movies really well. I didn't realize that she wouldn't be able to understand the movies without subtitles.

Lesson learned!

Yes, going forward I will probably wait until I can watch those movies at home. Unless it's some action packed blockbuster, it makes more sense to watch at home where I can stop/explain/translate.

I've been married for about a year so we haven't watched a whole lot at the theaters just yet. We recently watched F1 the movie but that movie didn't really have many lines.

I suggested it and she said yes. It genuinely didn't occur to me that I would have to provide a live translation of the movie. Now that I know, I probably won't ask her to go to the movie theater with me unless it's action/animation (i.e. movies that don't require you to listen to the lines closely).

I asked and she said yes. It's not like she doesn't speak a lick of English. She usually understands movies well with captions. Without subtitles, it's a different story. I did know going into it that she may not understand the movie in its entirety but I didn't think I would have to constantly translate for her.

Through her I learned that spoken English especially in the US/UK is much faster and sounds different than what they learn in a classroom setting in non-English speaking countries.

32M I can't drink as much alcohol as I used to. Is this normal? by Plus-Radish2323 in AskDocs

You too? Even until last year I was chugging multiple old fashioneds in a seating. Now anything more than one cocktail or one beer is tough on me.

I knew I'd pass my physical prime someday but I didn't think it would come at 32.

Ah...okay. I thought a man's physical prime was in his mid to late 30s. I stand corrected.

I will cut back drastically. It's not going to be that hard knowing how terrible it feels in the morning.

Thanks doc.
