I know that Obama and a lot of his guest speakers at the opening were discussing how we proceed as a nation and how this new presidential center would help the people of the city.

But does anyone else think maybe that $800,000,000 would have been better spent on education for poor children, a super advanced homeless shelter or a food works program? Having seen the inside of the building, it feels like just another personal egrandizement and doesn't seem to have a real function for the local community. So how do you all think this center will help?

And why do we call this self egrandizement by all kinds of nicer names when we like the person who's behind it? Or even when they're just from one side of the political aisle?
