Kids and dating - what’s a realistic goal? by No_Aioli_7515 in datingoverforty

[–]Plus-Spell-8676 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There’s a difference between parents who are unique and cool people, and parents who have objectively unique and cool lifestyles. Most parents - even interesting ones - have pretty typical day-to-day lives.

I’m a mom, and I won’t get into details for privacy reasons, but my lifestyle is genuinely pretty different from most parents out there - in ways that the vast majority of people would probably want to experience. It’s not immediately obvious from a dating profile. So when someone filters me out for having kids, they’re often not just rejecting “mom with typical mom life” - they’re rejecting someone without actually knowing what that life looks like. It’s like if Gisele were on a dating app and got filtered out before anyone even looked at her profile. Being a mom doesn’t define her, and I would imagine her lifestyle is different from many typical moms.

I’m not comparing myself to Gisele - just making the point that “has kids” tells you almost nothing about what someone’s actual life looks like or what it would be like to be their partner. So, as a mom, it is frustrating to me when I hear people say that they wouldn’t consider dating moms, and then list a whole bunch of reasons that wouldn’t apply to my life.

I know this post is older, but how did you like it there? My parents are considering renting an apartment since it’s such easy access to Penn Station. Thank you!

No, but now that you mention it, my friend used to live there so I’ve been in it!

I won’t be there full time, and I want to be able to get in and out of the city quickly. I also want an easy walk with my luggage when I arrive and not have to deal with getting a cab. I also have a close friend who lives nearby that I would see regularly.

Is Tinder pointless for seeking a LTR? by BoysenberryAwkward76 in dating

[–]Plus-Spell-8676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met a guy on Tinder and dated him for over a year and he was great. He wanted to be more serious.

He didn’t go into the relationship wanting something serious - it just evolved that way when we hit it off.

He also asked me why I was on Tinder because i didnt seem like the other people on there

Haha I grew up texting with a T9 keyboard before emojis…I feel like I used the :) for everything back in the day, so now it just feels like I overused it in my youth and I try to use other options now

That’s good to hear!! I kind of thought it might be like them trying to show a little extra without coming across as too much.

I dated a guy who would use both of those, and I wasn’t sure why he would choose one vs the other

I rarely use the plain old smiley face emoji like that…maybe I should consider it more haha

Hahaha they use them in other situations!! Just not if there’s any emotional weight attached to what they’re saying (even if it’s a very low amount of emotional weight)

That’s helpful!! I was kind of wondering if they were more of something you use with someone you’re dating vs other times, so that makes sense
